Harper Collins Middle School Books for Summer Reading

Are your kids spending any time reading this summer? Well, it’s not to late to encourage them to pick up some good books and read! Harper Collins has some new books geared toward kids ages 8 to 12. We recently had the chance to read a few and here’s what we liked:

This book is the fifth in a series of chapter books by Nate Ball, the host of PBS’s Design Squad and Design Squad Nation. The main character, Zack, and his alien friend Amp discover that leverage can save the earth! Each adventure with Zack and Amp includes safe science experiments to try at home and uses Common Core-aligned science. The books all correlate to the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts. My little friends enjoyed the humor and story line of this book.

This book is a fascinating adventure of living in the sky and a few slum kids who may turn out to be heroes. The story line tells of a time where a fog covered the earth and people needed to live on the mountain tops. The book is full of adventure, fantasy, courage and imagination! My friends really loved the fact that one of the kids in the book was named, “Bea” for Beatrice, because my daughter just had a baby named Beatrice! This is a beautiful hardcover book with a story that is perfect for a middle grade reader or to be read aloud to.

The students vote to create an in-school state-of-the-art TV studio to make morning announcements and even have enough money to hire a new digital media arts teacher, Ms. Cuddy. That’s where the fun begins! I won’t spoil the story for you! You’ll love it and your child will most surely enjoy reading it.
