I recently came across a great sale on Krusteaz sugar cookies – $0.50 per box. I bought two, wanting to try and make something slightly on the creative side (a place I almost never venture). With the big game coming up this weekend, I wanted to try and do something with a sports theme. I came up with this giant football field cookie.
How To Make A Giant Football Field Cookie
Ingredients
- 2x boxes Krusteaz sugar cookies
- 1x bottle Wilton white cookie icing
- Wilton green sugar sprinkles
- 1x Wilton white icing or gel tube OR – straws or cake pop sticks if you don’t have the gel icing
- 1 Milk Dud
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 f.
Prepare the cookie dough according to the instructions on the package.
Place the cookie dough onto a large tray and form a rectangle.

Make two mounds on one end (or two if you want) that will serve to hold your goalpost. I had already spread out my sugar cookie dough so I used two mounds of chocolate chip cookie dough here, but if you plan and make your rectangular field a little smaller you can use the sugar cookie dough to make the mounds too.
I wanted to use pretzels to make my goalpost. But I couldn’t get it to stand on one pretzel, so I had to switch to using two.

Bake the cookie for 11 minutes. (Basically this was the middle option for the baking times on the box.)
When the cookie is finished baking remove from the oven and cool for at least 15 minutes.
Spread the white cookie dough icing across the cookie. I went with white because I expect the field here in Jersey to be snowy on the day of the big game. If it’s nice where you are use green icing. if it’s rainy, use brown to make it muddy. You get the picture.

Now I sprinkled Wilton green sugar sprinkles over the icing, The green sugar sprinkles represented the actual field. I had white sugar sprinkles, which is why I used white. If I were purchasing the icing I would have used green icing and then sprinkled white sugar sprinkles.

I was not happy with my goalpost. So I removed the pretzel rods and substituted a contraption we put together with straws and cake pop sticks. Which also gave the end zone a muddy look that I sort of liked.
All that’s left now is to put some lines on the field. Afterwards I realized that gel icing would have been perfect, and totally edible. If you don’t have white gel icing, just use a couple of straws or cake pop sticks to make some lines.
The football was a Milk Dud.

That’s it! Put the whole cookie out on the table and let your guests enjoy some sugar cookie while cheering on their favorite team.
After all was said and done, considering I had some of the ingredients already, this whole giant cookie cost under $3 to make. Everyone that saw it got a big kick out of it. And it tasted just like a sugar cookie.

This is a very cute idea. If a team was playing that I liked I might do this. Lol. Great job.
