Yesterday afternoon we returned home from a family weekend away. We’d spent a good chunk of the day in the car, and we all just wanted to relax and unwind. I knew as we approached home that the last thing I wanted to do was cook a meal from scratch. I wanted to put out a dinner that required little from me, the kind that almost cooks itself.  Basically, an effortless meal.

I first tried one of these Effortless Meals while we were on vacation in upstate New York. We’d spent over six hours driving and pulled into the campground near dinnertime. The first thing we had to do was go to the store to pick up food for our stay. We went to the Super Walmart as we usually do, because it’s close (when you’re on a mountain that matters) and because they carry all sorts of things so we can get everything done in one stop. When I saw the Effortless Pizza meal I knew it would be a hit, and it was.

Back to last night. I decided to make one final stop on my way home. The stop was at my nearby Walmart. Right in a display near the entrance to the store is a big display, where you can find trays of fried chicken and whole rotisserie chickens.

For those with need for a smaller meal, nearby is an area where you can find a variety of sandwiches.

I grabbed four items and was out in literally five minutes. I got two bottles of Coca-Cola, a tray of fried chicken and a Marketplace Buttery Garlic Rotisserie Chicken. The tray of fried chicken was for my oldest. The rotisserie chicken was for hubby, it’s one of his favorite foods and one of the things I don’t make.

Hubby loved his chicken. The fried chicken I’d picked up for my oldest was gone before I could blink. They were full and content. I was content I didn’t have to cook or do dishes. I was more then content to spend time with my little guy snuggling. I’ll take that over being in the kitchen cooking for an hour or so any day of any week of any month.
