Teen Beach Movie is both directed and choreographed by Jeffrey Hornaday, the choreographer of “A Chorus Line” and “Flashdance”, and co-choreographed by Christopher Scott, choreographer for “Step Up 4”. Needless to say, this dance-filled movie has some great choreography that both my daughter and I enjoyed!
From the second my daughter saw this movie advertised on the Disney Channel, she begged to watch it. She was ecstatic when she found out I had the opportunity to review it! The movie stars Ross Lynch, Maia Mitchell, Grace Phipps, Garret Clayton, and more. It tells the story of surfer McKenzie and her boyfriend, Brady, and their mysterious transformation into a 1962 film, “Wet Side Story” – Brady’s favorite. The movie is a “West Side Story” – meets – “High School Musical”-type story, filled with spontaneous dancing and songs and a feud between the surfers and bikers.
The comedy is cute enough for me to enjoy and was hilarious to my eight-year-old. We both especially loved the outfits used in the movie, and the actors were typical of what you’d expect for this type of tween film. Overall, it’s an enjoyable movie that both parent and child can appreciate.
