Nighttime can be a tough time in many households. Getting your child to relax enough to fall asleep is the “battle”. “I am thirsty, I have to tell you something, I need another hug, I am afraid of the dark” and finally, “I can’t fall asleep”. The nighttime ritual is dreaded and you constantly wonder how long this stage will last.

The makers of The Drift™-Light may have the answer for you. The Drift™-Light starts out as a normal bright light and slowly starts to dim until it is no longer lit. This is great because your child starts out in a lit room. As the light starts dimming it will most likely start to relax your little one. Think of it as how the sun starts out bright in the sky but slowly it dims until it has set. The drift light takes 37 minutes to go from bright to dark. Most children, even adults can feel the effects of the transition and easily fall asleep.

Features of The Drift™-Light:

  • The Drift™-Light helps solve the problem of bluer light emitted from electronics and some energy efficient bulbs that are especially bad for sleep. First, it is designed to slowly dim over time to help promote relaxation and an increase in melatonin. It also uses a much warmer form of light than other bulbs. By reducing the amount of blue light emitted, which also increases melatonin and helps get you ready for sleep.
  • Our bodies don not handle abrupt changes. Having an easy transition from waking to sleeping helps prepare you for sleep. The Drift™-Light has been designed to mimic a sunset by slowly dimming over 37 minutes. This gives your body that gradual shift from light to darkness and gives you the opportunity to engage in relaxing activities to help you feel sleepy.
  • Nightly routines can make it difficult (for adults) to start relaxing before bed. Going throughout the house to turn off lights, then if you have night lights, their light can be quite bright. The Drift™-Light’s Moonlight Mode can be activated during your bedtime routine, giving you plenty of time to get ready for bed. Moonlight mode gives off just enough light to keep you safe without using up an outlet.

As you can see The Drift™-Light is not only for children but adults too. Getting a good night’s sleep is important with all the daily activities. For parents who work inside and outside of the home (or both) having a fresh mind that is able to function is important. Parents have so much on their mind that sometimes when bedtime hits, that is when they lay there with all of those thoughts running through their mind. This also will help relax you and hopefully lull you into a comfortable nights sleep.

Children also need a proper night’s sleep to keep their minds and bodies fresh for a day at school and play.

These bulbs also have an average lifespan of 30,000 hours. That’s over thirty times longer than incandescent bulbs. This tells you they will last for quite a long time. To learn more about The Drift™-Light you can visit their FAQs page.

This is the first time I have come across a light bulb like this. Dimming over a 37 minute period is something new as far as I can tell. The theory behind the light bulb is very interesting, as the bulb fades away so does the child. It probably works on some kids but not others, however well worth trying.

I love the idea behind this light. It would definitely help my daughter. She doesn't like to go to sleep at night. But a gradual light darkening would definitely help calm her for the night.

We've started converting over to LED for all of our lights. They're still a little pricey right now, but they last so long that they will pay for themselves in no time at all.
