On May 4th, all of our hard work on Brielle’s gorgeous new room culminated with her Disney Princess room reveal and PJ party! Weeks of planning went into this party and it was by far the biggest sleepover we have hosted for her and her friends, so we were excited to get it under way and show off her room makeover with Glidden’s All That Glitters and Great Slate Disney Special Finishes as the stars.
We invited 10 girls, 8 of whom were able to make it to the party. That totals 9 8-year-old girls! Once they all arrived, I had them sit in a circle and introduce each other and then tell everyone who their favorite Disney Princess was and why. This built some extra excitement before the big room reveal!
Then Brielle led her friends upstairs and into her room.
As soon as they entered, there was an overwhelming amount of “Wow”s, “Oh My Gosh”es, “Oooh”s, and “Aaahhh”s! K even said “I NEED glittery walls like this in my room! Like, NEED them!” The girls were so in love with Brielle’s All That Glitters accent wall that they didn’t at first notice that the hearts on the wall were made with Great Slate chalkboard paint! Once I pointed this out, I heard several more “Wow”s before each girl grabbed a piece of chalk and began doodling. Brielle and her friends stayed in her room drawing, playing, and doing each other’s makeup. I then had them get their Disney Princess pajamas on so we could get the party rolling! Even Trenton sported his The Lion King pajamas!
Next up was our craft and game. At Walmart’s craft section, I found some adorable art supplies to decorate hand-held mirrors that I picked up at the local dollar store. The jewels, sparkly glitter glue, and Disney Princess stickers were perfect for completing this craft. The girls LOVED it and it was simple for them to do on their own! I also found a Disney Princess Memory game at Walmart in the toy section. I loved that it had tons of cards, so all the girls had plenty of opportunities to make matches of the Disney Princesses! Since we didn’t want this party competitive, we put numbers on each of the girls’ mirrors and had an iPhone app pick a random number. J’s mirror had the winning number, and was the lucky winner of a $50 Walmart gift card!
Our next task – eat! Princesses get hungry too, after all! Brielle and I made some mini pizzas before the party using English muffins, pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni. While the girls did their craft and game, we popped them in the oven. Brielle and I also took a stab at making cake pops for the first time. Though we aren’t expert decorators, I think they fit perfectly in our Disney Princess theme!
One of Brielle’s friends, C, also helped her mom bake Princess cupcakes for the party!
After the girls settled down, we helped them set up their sleeping spots. Of course, no sleepover is complete without some pillow fights and sleeping bag races!
After 2 hours of giggling, the last of them finally fell asleep, only to all wake up again at 6:30 in the morning! After making a breakfast fit for Princesses (eggs, bacon, and pancakes!), the girls put on a fashion show and concert before packing up their things and heading home.
Brielle and her friends LOVED her Magic Room PJ party and collectively agreed it was “the best sleepover ever!”

I absolutely love this finish. I’ll admit it does not show up well using room light, but, WOW, when natural sunlight hits it, it’s gorgeous! Look at all the sparkle!
If you plan on using the All That Glitters finish, here are some tips to help you out:
1. Use over light to medium paint colors.
2. Apply to small, 18-inch sections at a time, and don’t be precise with your strokes. It looks much better with random angles!
3. Get creative with the finish! Use it on furniture or the ceiling for extra glam in your room!
4. Apply this finish where light will hit it the most, like by a window or behind lamps.
And, some tips for working with Great Slate:
1. Chalk looks the best on medium to dark paint colors.
2. Use primer on any unpainted surfaces before using Great Slate.
3. Let first coat dry for 4 hours before applying a second.
4. Let the paint cure for 7 days before writing on it!
5. Be creative with this paint too! Make a calendar on the wall, paint a bedroom door, or paint a vertical stripe on a wall to use as a growth chart. The possibilities with this paint are endless!
