I recently had the opportunity to review some insect-repellent clothing & accessories for Abby from the Bug Smarties Collection at onestepahead.com and I’m really impressed with my results. I selected three items which were the Bug Smarties Girls Tunic Top with Insect Shield, Bug Smarties Performance Pants with Insect Shield and a cute pink Bug Smarties Girls Headband with Insect Shield. We are an outdoor family and we love hosting and going to outdoor events. Unfortunately, Abby is allergic to most insect bites, even mosquitoes. So of course the Bug Smarties Collection was something I wanted to review to see if there is hope for allowing her to go outdoors more.

The clothing not only kept the mosquitoes away for the 4th of July, it kept the annoying flies away as well. We had stormy weather off and on all weekend and when we’d head out, the flies were crazy. Someone once told me they wear army boots when the weather is bad and I believe it because they want to land on us when it’s raining or going to. I’m not an insect person and would kill them all if given the opportunity. After testing the clothing on Abby this weekend, I’ve packed it up for her to take to church camp next week. Our church camp is in the woods and mosquitoes, gnats, flies and ants are a problem. I don’t know how the insect protection is built in the clothing but I’m really glad it is. Kids should be able to go outdoors even when they are allergic to pesky insects. This clothing will allow Abby to enjoy her childhood and after 70 laundering’s, I can purchase more. Even if I had to wash her insect shield clothing daily, it will last for the rest of our summer months.

I love that I don’t have to put mosquito repellent on Abby any more because I worry about the chemicals in the spray. I’ve tried all sorts of organic bug repellent but nothing seems to work and she always swells up and gets welts from the mosquitoes that ignore the mild repellents. I’ve always tried to keep her indoors during the worst times of the day like in the early mornings and evenings because that’s when mosquitoes are at their worst here. I was surprised when I moved here that this town does not spray for mosquitoes but it doesn’t so we have to deal with them. Now that I have the insect shield repellent clothing for Abby, she’ll be able to go outdoors and play during the coolest times of the day instead of waiting until the mosquitoes aren’t as active here. I took some photos to show how cute the clothing is because cute is important too, for girls and boys and they do have clothing for both genders.

Be sure to check out the Bug Smarties Collection to keep your kids safe from unwanted insects.

My son is also allergic to a lot of insect bites and we also live in a town that doesnt spray. We have been to the doctor twice this year for his bug bites and both times he needed an antibiotic because they got infected. I will definitely be looking into these clothes for him!
