REVIEW – Britax Boulevard Car Seat

The Britax Boulevard Car Seat is for children that weigh from 5 – 65 lbs and are less than 49 inches tall. This car seat is rear facing for children 5 – 40 pounds and forward facing for children 20 to 65 pounds. The Boulevard Car Seat base features SafeCells. These are designed to compress in a crash, significantly lowering the center of gravity and counteracting the forward rotation of the child seat which normally propels the child toward the front seat. There are integrated steel bars that strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing of the child seat during a crash. There’s also an energy-absorbing Versa-Tether, which features staged-release tether webbing to slow the forward movement, reducing the crash forces reaching the child, and a two-point attachment to minimize forward rotation while anchoring the top of the child seat.
The Boulevard car seat is extremely well made. I felt safe with my son BG in it. The seat has 3 positions. Since BG is still rear facing it has to be in Position 3 which is an angle of between 30-45°. There is an easy access recline lever on the front of the seat. If you use this feature it is recommended to recline it prior to putting it in the car. The seat has an Easy-Remove Cover, which permits easy cleaning, without disassembling the harness or uninstalling the car seat.

To ensure maximum safety there are 3 requirements for rear facing: the harness straps in the closest position at or below babies shoulders AND with babies who weigh 5-40lbs AND the top of the childs head is at least 1 inch below the top of the child seat shell. For forward facing the harness straps are closest positioned at or above the babies shoulders AND weigh 20-65lbs AND are 49in or less AND the top of the ears are below the top of the car seat shell. There is a nice plush infant positioning pillow that must be used for rear facing and removed for forward facing. The Infant Positioning Pillow is extremely plush. The EZ Buckle System Belly Pad helps block little legs from the bottom Harness Buckle. There is a very easy to use Harness Height Adjuster.

One of my favorite features is the comfort pads. They are soft to the touch and are really nice to keep straps from digging into the babies neck. The HUGS Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology are another clever way to safely keep the straps off your child’s chest. There is a very sturdy chest clip that needs to be clipped and slid in the proper location of the babies chest around the armpit level. There is a hidden lever that you pull up to make the straps loose and then a strap that hangs that once you have you can pull to tighten the straps to make the straps secure on your baby. I found the hidden lever to be pretty well hidden, I didn’t find it right away. I thought that it was a little hard to pull up, but that could be a good thing if other children are in the car.
We used the latch system to put the Boulevard in our minivan. The lower connectors have a very nice storage slot on the back of the car seat. Our car is equipped with anchors built into the seats. There is a gray button to make the anchor straps longer or shorter. That part was a little hard to do but manageable.


If for some reason you do not have the instruction manual when you are installing the seat there are instruction labels on both sides of the seat. This is very helpful, particularly if you store the seat for a period of time or loan it to someone who might be caring for your child.
I have to say that so far this seat is amazing. The attention to comfort and safety is great for little ones and really puts my mind at ease. Plus this seat has Britax True Side Impact Technology which is a huge thing for me since we have a minivan and BG has to sit on the second row bucket seat. The True Side Impact Protection offers a head restraint creating an extra layer of energy-absorbing EPP foam, keeping the head, neck and spine “in true” or aligned, and deep side walls lined with EPP foam to distribute crash forces, shield from vehicle intrusion, and contain the head, neck and body.
The Britax Boulevard Car Seat, with an MSRP of $319.99, is made in the USA with global components. It is certified for aircraft travel. BG seems to be very comfortable and falls asleep almost every time we go somewhere.  I will definitely be recommending this to other parents as well as those that are expecting.
