I am a member of the Restaurant.com #ReviewCrew. I received a gift certificate to help facilitate this post. I chose what restaurant to go to. Please note that, as always, any personal opinions reflected are my own and have not been influenced in any way.

Yesterday the chief cook and bottle washer (that’s me) decided to take a break. I did not want formal dining, a social experience best shared. What I wanted was comfy-cosy, where smells and taste dominate not pricing. Phooey to fast food! I remember growing up in the city where corner delis were special; where mom and pop bakeries excelled. Fresh? Homemade? Good luck finding taste-tempting stuff. Today’s casual dining too often means out-sourced breads, frozen desserts, pre-packaged treats. Me, I remain committed to good bakery. It makes or breaks eating.
I search Restaurant.com and come up with an idea: Atlanta Bread Company.

The storefront of the Toms River Atlanta Bread location doesn’t signal chain. Instead it has a small town intimate feel, pleasantly surprising considering how Toms River has grown over the years.

Atmosphere clean, quiet, light and bright. Comfortable seating in booths, tables, coffee bar.

Service is excellent. Soups, sandwiches, salads, desserts, mmm good! Choices abound.

I opt for a Half and Half–a panini (New York hot pastrami on rye with swiss and spicy mustard) and butternut squash soup. Extra touches like a slab of sourdough and a dollop of sour cream show me this place values and works to please its customers.

I sip some iced coffee and savor my warm bread pudding (at least here I know all the ingredients are fresh) as I decide what I am bringing home. Everything tempts–danish, muffins, croissants, rolls, bagels, breads–because no day old here as everything is fresh.

It''s been at least a decade since I ate at the one on 130. It's very similar to Panera.

I love restaurants like this one that serve comfort food. I like that it is close enough where I can head there for a bite to eat to try some of these dishes for myself.
