If you are not already familiar with AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate, the brand has a unique place in the history of Mars Wrigley Confectionery and in the hearts and minds of people all over America who appreciate an artisanal, authentic approach to making and celebrating chocolate. Conceived of, and crafted by, a dedicated team of historians, AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate is the result of painstaking years of research by a multidisciplinary team of more than 115 experts from around the globe. Culled from the archives of some of the most venerated historic institutions, libraries and private collections in America, and in consultation with leaders in food history – from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation to The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, the passionate team has developed a chocolate product with a flavor profile drawn directly from the annals of chocolate’s historic past. What makes AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate unique is how it taps into the stories of our collective past – from chocolate’s Mesoamerican roots, dating back over 3,500 years, to its place in the lives of European and Colonial American families. American Heritage Chocolate - Chocolate Crinkle Cookies recipe

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

  • 8 oz American Heritage™ Chocolate Tasting Squares, chopped (225g)
  • 1/4 cup Butter (57g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (8g)
  • 3/4 cup almond flour (75g)
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour (60g)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder (2g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (2g)
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar (120g)

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate and butter. Microwave on high in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat eggs and granulated sugar at high speed until fluffy and pale, about 4 minutes. Reduce mixer speed to medium. Gradually add melted chocolate and vanilla, beating until combined.

In a medium bowl, whisk together almond meal, flour, baking powder, and salt. With mixer on low speed, gradually add almond meal mixture to egg mixture, beating just until combined. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until firm, 1 to 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Place confectioners’ sugar in a small bowl.

Using a medium (1½-tablespoon) spring-loaded scoop, scoop dough into balls. (You can also roll dough into 1-inch balls using your hands.) Roll each ball generously in confectioners’ sugar, and place 2 inches apart on prepared pans.

Bake until cookies are cracked and still soft in center, 8 to 10 minutes. (Overbaking cookies will make them dry.)

Let cool on pans for 10 minutes. Remove from pans, and let cool completely on wire racks.
