Review of Funky Monkey Snacks

We'd love it if you shared it!

My youngest son CJ has Celiac Disease. It makes finding foods and snacks that are both tasty and safe for him quite challenging. That’s why I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to review Funky Monkey fruit snacks.

From the website – “Funky Monkey freeze-dries fruit using a proprietary process, removing nearly all of the water while locking in the smell, taste and nutrients of resh fruit and producing a quakelike crunch!

We received one of each flavor they make. Bananamon is bananas and cinnamon. JiveALime is pineapple with lime. Purple Funk is banana with acai. Carnival Mix is bananas, pineapples, apples, papayas and raisins. All four varieties are made from 100% real fruit. Nothing is added – no sugar, no colors, no preservatives and no artificial flavors. The snacks are all Kosher and dairy free. And, most importantly for my family, all of the flavors are gluten free. Each 1 ounce bag contains 3 servings of fruit.

The snacks all came in fun, brightly colored packaging. That’s all well and good, except I believe people will eat what’s good based upon the taste, not the package. I’ve always felt that packaging should be functional, user friendly and stand out enough that the product will stand out on the shelves. These packages will certainly stand out on the shelves, I haven’t seen anything like it in packaging of other snacks or dried fruits. The label states that one bag is one serving. I found that one bag actually made two reasonable snack size servings for my youngest. I do think it would be nice if the bag was resealable.

All four members of my family really liked and enjoyed the Funky Monkey snacks. I have no qualms recommending them to anyone. The taste is great and there’s nothing bad in them. The flavors really come through in each bite. The snacks are very crunchy. I’ve tried some dried fruits in the past that were limp and heavy, almost soggy. The Funky Monkey snacks are much more appealing. My favorite is the Bananamon. Hubby liked the Purple Funk. My oldest son T’s favorite is the JiveALime because it was a little tart. It was hard to tell if CJ liked the Bananamon or the Carnival Mix better because he gobbled both up as quickly as he could grab them up. We know he liked them because he kept saying “good” and “more”.
