Eli’s Skinny Cheesecake

We'd love it if you shared it!

I have always loved cheesecake. I’ve even gone to a few extremes to have a piece of cheesecake throughout the years, but that’s a story for another time. It’s one of the few foods I never tire of and could eat on just about any given day. It never gets old either, because so many companies and restaurants make it in so many different ways. Some of the best cheesecakes I have ever had came from Eli’s Cheesecake. I’ve had their Cookie Crazy Oreo Cheesecake (awesome – my fave) the plain and the strawberry. I haven’t had the Triple Chocolate Truffle but I’ve drooled over it more than a few times.

Eli’s recently added some new cheesecake to their line – the Skinny. The Skinny is a 20 ounce cheesecake that has no sugar added. When I first learned of this cheesecake I mistakenly thought it was sugar free. During a phone conversation with Debbie Marchok, VP of Marketing at Eli’s, I called this cheesecake sugar free and she graciously corrected me, explaining that some of the ingredients naturally have sugar so the cheesecake could not be called sugar free.

I received one of the Skinny cheesecakes for this review – a 7 inch Skinny Plain. I was interested in trying this cheesecake because since having bariatric surgery in April I’m trying to watch what I eat and eat a little smarter but I’ve been missing a few foods like my favorite dessert cheesecake. My cheesecake was shipped from Eli’s in Illinois so it arrived on dry ice. It was fresh and chilled. The cheesecake is pre-sliced for 12 servings and sealed in plastic to keep it fresh.

I took one piece out and out the rest in the freezer. Unlike some products, Eli’s can be frozen and refrozen without losing taste or texture. It can be frozen for up to six months, not that one would ever last that long in my house. The Skinny cheesecake tasted very much like the Eli’s original.

The Skinny Cheesecake was quite dense and heavy and had the same butter shortbead cookie crust. Each day I thawed another piece and the flavor remained consistently delicious each time. There was no unpleasant freezer taste at all, like some foods have after freezing and thawing.

I recommend the Eli’s Skinny Cheesecake. The serving size is just right for the diet I’m on post surgery. One slice equals one serving, and each serving has 150 calories. Each slice has 10 grams of fat, 4 grams of protein and 60 milligrams of cholesterol. This cheesecake is terrific for anyone like me watching portion size and calories, as well as diabetics and those watching their weight.

Eli’s No Sugar Added cheesecakes are available in the following varieties – The Skinny, The Skinny Chocolate, The Skinny Original Plain (has a chocolate ganache topping) and The Skinny Original Plain Made With Equal. The Skinny cheesecakes are a great product for those watching calories, carbs or sugars. Eli’s Cheesecakes are available to purchase from the Eli’s website and in select grocery stores.

When you visit the Eli’s Cheesecake website be sure to enter their Win A Free Cheesecake contest – they give a cheesecake away every month.

National Cheesecake Day is July 30 so order one or go to your local store and pick one up.

So, here’s a question. What’s your favorite kind of cheesecake? Which one of Eli’s Cheesecakes would you most like to try?

I'd love to pitch for this line myself.

I love regular cheesecake with cherries on top... but I think I would love to try the Triple Chocolate Truffle.

I've heard some of the best cheesecake is made in Chicago, I'll have to keep this in mind.
