For more than twenty years, Todd Wilbur has been translating his obsession with recreating restaurant favorites at home into a blockbuster bestselling cookbook series. Using everyday ingredients, each of Wilbur’s recipes provides step-by-step instructions that even the novice cook can follow-and the delicious results cost just a fraction of what the restaurants charge.
I enjoy eating out at restaurants. Unfortunately, like so any others, my budget doesn’t permit it as often as I might like. The idea of knowing how some of my favorite restaurant dishes are made is very appealing to me, which is why I accepted the offer to review the Top Secret Restaurant Recipes 3 Cookbook.
There are no chapters in this cookbook. It’s organized alphabetically, according to the name of the restaurant. The recipes are easy enough to understand. Each recipe contains some history or background information. I appreciated seeing that the recipes call for ordinary ingredients you can find at your local grocery store. The cookbook doesn’t contain any traditional photos, something I feel entices the reader into reading and cooking. However, some of the recipes contain a blueprint, which is a blue and white rendering of how to assemble the dish. Truthfully, which I understand why the author chose to use these, they just don’t draw me in the way that color photos do. Prep and cooking time aren’t listed individually, to find out what the cooking time is you must read through the whole recipe. I use cooking time as a factor when I’m deciding if I want to try a recipe so if a future edition is published I’d love to see that highlighted. With no color photos and a lot of reading I found that I just didn’t enjoy this cookbook as much as I’d hoped that I would. Nevertheless, it would be a great resource for folks who enjoy eating out and know what their favorite meals look like.
