Capriccio By The Sea, Seaside Heights NJ – Restaurant Review – Restaurant.com #ReviewCrew

We'd love it if you shared it!

I am a member of the Restaurant.com #ReviewCrew. I received a gift certificate to help facilitate this post. I chose what restaurant to go to. Please note that, as always, any personal opinions reflected are my own and have not been influenced in any way.

I enjoy going out to eat. I do have my favorites, but I also love discovering restaurants in my own area that I’ve never visited before. Recently I had the pleasure of checking out a place I’d never been – Capriccio By The Sea. I discovered them through the Restaurant.com app.

For those unfamiliar with Restaurant.com:

Restaurant.com has been filling tables since 1999 and is the destination for dining whether you like to plan ahead or find a meal on the go.  Restaurant.com helps diners discover the perfect dining experience and boasts nearly 50,000 dining deals available every day, even on the weekends!  And, the deals are easy to use – present the certificate to the server on a mobile device, or print out a copy, and voilà – the savings will be deducted from your final bill.  Bon Appétit!”

Capriccio By The Sea is located in Seaside Heights on Rt 35, not far from the ocean. For those familiar with the area, they’re in the building that used to be Gabriella’s. I don’t get to see my parents together as often as I’d like so I asked them to join me. We went on a Sunday afternoon, for an early dinner. As it turns out, the restaurant was preparing to close that coming week for a major remodel, which is why I have no photos of the inside or outside. The restaurant does have a ramp, making it wheelchair accessible. We were the first to arrive. We were seated immediately and had our beverage order taken.

While deciding what we wanted to order we were served warm bread and butter, and bruschetta on toast. The bread was nice and warm, so when you put butter on it it softened and spread nicely. The bruschetta was delicious, amongst the best I’ve had.

For an appetizer we chose a deep fried and breaded mozzarella from the daily specials, which came with a red marinara sauce. I loved the way the coating cooked on the outside. I enjoyed this dish so much that it quickly moved to the top of my “restaurant dishes I want to recreate at home” list. My Mom was all in favor of me figuring out how to make it, as she also enjoyed it.

For my entree I ordered Petti Di alla Parmesan, or chicken parmesan, which is on the menu for $20. The giant boneless breast of chicken was dipped in a herb coating and sauteed, then topped with fresh mozzarella and sauce, and served on a bed of pasta. The chicken was absolutely delicious.

Mom chose an item from the specials. She ordered a special dish that had lobster and scallops, served on a bed of pasta, which if memory serves was $25. She really enjoyed her meal a lot. She said the scallops were tender and tasty and that she’d never had a sauce quite like it.

Dad had a chicken special that came with vegetables and mashed potatoes. He was very pleased with the portion size and found it flavorful.

Time for dessert! We couldn’t decide what to get, so we ordered three items and shared them so we could all give them a taste..

Flourless chocolate cake. It was so heavenly that it was sinful. Beautifully plated with chocolate drizzle and whipped cream.

The apple dessert was combined with a gelato and whipped cream. So good!

The Tiramisu was very tasty, served with whipped cream and berries.

We all enjoyed our food tremendously. The service was also excellent. The woman that served us was really friendly and conversational. She was attentive and never made us feel rushed. The owner also stopped by, chatting with us about the food, the remodel and just the area in general. I can truly say that I enjoyed our meal there tremendously.

Pricewise I can honestly say that while the food was delicious, this isn’t a place I could easily just pick up and go. It’s a bit expensive, and using a Restaurant.com gift certificate is the only thing that enabled me to take my parents there. With a meal basically starting at $20-$25 per head before drinks, appetizers, etc and that being on the low side, Capriccio by the Sea is the type of restaurant that would be a real treat for us.

Restaurant.com offered a $25 gift certificate for $10, a $50 gift certificate for $20, and a $75 gift certificate for $30. Remember, when you use a Restaurant.com gift certificate there is still a minimum purchase at the restaurant. Generally the minimum is double the amount of the certificate, but not always so be sure to check. In our case using a $75 gift certificate required a $150 purchase. So if you had a guest check for $150 you would take off $75 (which you only paid $30 for) and then be left with the balance of $75. In other words, a $150 meal would have cost you $105.

Capriccio by the Sea should be reopening later this month. I am curious to see the results of the remodel next time I visit, but I am really looking forward to eating the food again.

Do you have a favorite Italian dish to order when you go out, or do you generally order a dish you’ve had somewhere before and love?

Actually, the restaurant is in Ortley Beach, not Seaside Heights.

I favor fish and veal because I don't cook either much.

I remember when we first discovered Restaurant.com. It was like hitting the jackpot. We started going to places we otherwise would have never tried.
