Finally, a fun and easy way to get your children to eat more fruits and veggies — and cook everything themselves! Youngsters will learn all about nutrition and healthful living as they cook their way through the rainbow with yummy recipes like blueberry pancakes, sweet potato fries and pineapple sherbet. Each recipe includes nourishing, colorful ingredients and step-by-step photos to guide your child to a lifetime of wholesome eating.

This cookbook is set up a bit differently then most others. It’s important to read the introduction, so you understand why the book is set up the way it is. Along with information on what the different colors of food mean, the introduction also contains some information on food safety, and grocery shopping and cooking with children.  Then come the recipes.

Chapters include:

  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue and Purple
  • Brown
  • Colorful Foods

The recipes are all very easy to understand. The level of difficulty of each recipe is noted. The levels of easy, medium and hard are noted as such depending on what tools or adult help might be required to complete the recipe. Not only are the instructions for making each dish clear, each recipe is accompanied by a number of color photos that make up a step-by-step photo tutorial. Along with the list of ingredients, a list of necessary tools is listed, along with a list of the food groups that each ingredient belongs to. The only suggestion I have for improvement is that I would like to see cooking and prep time listed separately. I use cooking and prep time to help me decide what recipes I am going to make. I find it very inconvenient to have to read through a recipe just to find out how long it will take to make. This cookbook would be a great for anyone that would like to help their child start to learn to cook and do more in the kitchen.

Does your child enjoy helping in the kitchen? What do they enjoy the most?
