REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY – Mighty Leaf Tea

Mighty Leaf Tea is based in San Rafael, CA, and run by a husband-wife team, Gary Shinner and Jill Portman. Mighty Leaf Tea makes all-natural teas blended with hand-picked blossoms, herbs, fruits, and spices. The tea blends are contained in artisan Tea Pouches, hand-stitched with unbleached cotton, and free from glue and staples.

Mighty Leaf Tea has been featured on “Every Day with Rachael Ray” and the “Dr. Oz Show,” and has received several awards, including Best New Food and Beverage product of 2012 by the National Restaurant Association and Best Packaging at the World Tea Expo in March 2013.

There are currently four all-natural tea flavors: Organic Black, Sunburst Green, Ginger Peach, and Calypso Mango.

I loved the look of the tea bags and how you can easily see the all-natural tea and other ingredients inside. They are also oversized tea bags, perfect for blending pitchers of tea. I personally love making ‘sun tea’ – brewing tea out in the sun – and these tea bags are perfect for that. I normally use several individual tea bags, which can be a pain. With these, I need only one for a whole 1/2 gallon pitcher.

Each bag has a long string attached so it reaches to the bottom of the pitcher to make sure the whole bag is covered. I love that each tag also has easy brewing instructions – most recommend steeping for 4-5 minutes.

I tried out the Calypso Mango first, using the more detailed directions on the box. They suggest boiling 32oz of water (half of a 1/2 gallon pitcher), and pouring that into the pitcher with your tea bag already in place. Then steep 4-5 minutes. Remove the tea bag and add ice to the remainder of the pitcher (or water if you’re not planning on drinking right away) and refrigerate. Simple enough!

I like just a hint of sweetness with my iced tea, so I added a 1/2 cup of sugar once it was brewed. Absolutely delicious! After trying all the other flavors, Calypso Mango was still my favorite. My daughter concurs.
