Apparently I Have Seen Too Many Movies

We'd love it if you shared it!

Kathy Bates Misery Knife

I haven’t been feeling well for a while. There are days that it’s really taken a toll on my mood and at times my concentration. Today was one of those days. Early this evening (6:30 pm) I left the house with my oldest and his girlfriend, I was driving them to the movies. I backed out of my driveway and heard a noise. I couldn’t figure out what it was. TJ said “Mom I think you hit the van behind us”. Somehow that made sense, even though it was light out and I’d seen the van back there before starting to pull out of the driveway. I got out and looked and sure enough I had tapped the van’s mirror with the back end of my truck. I didn’t see any damage at all but wanted to do the right thing. So I got back into the truck and pulled it over a bit, then got out and went to the door of the house where the van was parked, which is directly across from my house. A woman I’d never seen before came to the door, holding a HUGE butcher knife. I admit, a couple of strange things went through my mind, the oddest being the image of Kathy Bates holding the knife from a scene in the movie Misery. I pulled up my big girl panties and told the woman that I’d accidentally backed up and tapped the mirror of the van on the side of the house and would like the owner to take a look. I backed up a step or two when she moved. Turns out she was turning to go back up the stairs. As she did she called up the stairs asking who owned the van. I waited, wondering what the next person might be carrying when they appeared. Shortly an unarmed man came down to the door. I explained what happened and apologized as we walked outside. He looked and saw no damage, I had only caused the side mirror to fold in like it’s designed to do. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes and that it was no big deal. I was really impressed at how nice and friendly and understanding he was. As I left to finish my trip to the movie theater, I couldn’t help but feel a little glad that the van had belonged to him and not the woman with the big knife. Apparently I have seen too many movies.

Kathy Bates--play on the Psycho motel???--did a good job in Harry's Law this season. I don't watch many violent movies so my imagination could run many places. Glad that there was no damage.

No, Kathy Bates played a female villain in Stephen King's Misery.
