From Val’s Kitchen has teamed up with Better In Bulk and This Mama Loves to bring you this recipe linky. This feature runs every Monday. It’s a great opportunity for you to find and share menu ideas. Some weeks I’ll be sharing a recipe of my own, while other weeks I’ll be featuring one of the your recipes (from those submitted the previous week). Please visit the other bloggers and readers and check out the recipes they’ve shared. You never know, you could meal plan your whole week right here in a matter of minutes!
There have been many times I’ve made a dish, stored it in one thing, reheated in another, and served in yet another. Not only at home, but when I brought lunch to work as well. Some things don’t freeze well. Some things aren’t microwave friendly. it can make for a lot of work and some extra dishes too. I recently decided to try making something in a jar. I started with a super quick and easy recipe that in the past I would normally make a batch of, store in one large container, then distribute into smaller containers as needed. I was very pleased with the results, the meals were all in one container and very easy to reheat. I’m looking forward to trying to do more things with jars in the future.
This recipe uses pint jars and is enough to make four jars.
Easy Chicken Shepherd’s Pie In A Jar Recipe
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1x 12 oz bag steamable corn
- 1x pouch mashed potatoes (I used Betty Crocker Homestyle Creamy Butter this time)
- 2 oz shredded cheddar cheese
- 6-8 oz chicken gravy
INSTRUCTIONS
Brown the ground chicken.
While the chicken is cooking, make the mashed potatoes according to the instructions on the package.
You should also heat the microwave corn at this time, according to the instructions on the package.
When the chicken is cooked, distribute it evenly into the four jars.

Distribute the corn evenly into the four jars, placing it on top of the chicken.

Now distribute the mashed potatoes evenly into the four jars.

Place a layer of gravy on top of the potatoes. Also, sprinkle a little bit of the shredded cheddar cheese on the top.

Put a cap on the jar and refrigerate.

To serve, take the cap off of the jar and microwave for two minutes. Serve it on a plate or even eat it out of the jar if you have to.
We even froze one just to see how that worked. It took some fiddling to find the correct defrost time and setting (4 minutes on medium power) but it worked out great. This was a great way to put a filling meal into one container that you can store and serve from, and that is easy to transport. If you were inclined you could even make some of these for someone else that isn’t able to cook for one reason or another.
Now let’s see what you’re cooking up!
Please post the direct link to your recipe (not your blog) and the name of your recipe. All others will be removed.
