REVIEW – Weight Watchers Smart Ones Adds Two New Breakfast Items – Egg Sausage Cheese Wrap And French Toast With Turkey Sausage

We'd love it if you shared it!

Since losing more than 200 pounds I find I’m more mindful of what I’m eating, most of the time. Breakfast is a meal I’ve always enjoyed and found to be important. I get up to go to work at 3:35 am during the week. By 7-8 am I’m usually a little hungry and wanting some breakfast. I frequently have oatmeal or grits, because they are conveniently packaged to bring to work and they’re easy to make. When I learned about the two new breakfast items that Smart Ones added to their lineup I was excited to try them.

ABOUT SMART ONES

Smart Ones brand offers the only frozen nutritional meal that displays the new Weight Watchers PointsPlus values on its packaging. For more information about Weight Watchers Smart Ones or the new products, visit www.eatyourbest.com.

According to a recent survey from Food Insight, 93 percent of Americans agree that breakfast is the most important meal, yet less than half (44 percent) are eating it every day. To help kick off the morning the right way, Smart Ones is introducing two new breakfast items filled with protein and whole grains. The new additions to the Morning Express breakfast line have 290 calories or less and 8 grams of whole grains. They are ready to serve right out of the microwave.

Smart Ones Egg Sausage Cheese Wrap Box

Egg, Sausage and Cheese Smart Morning Wrap contains scrambled egg whites, cheesy sauce, breakfast sausage, vegetables and cheddar cheese in a soft tortilla with 11 grams of protein and a Weight Watchers PointsPlus value of six.

Smart Ones French Toast Turkey Sausage Box

French Toast with Turkey Sausage is served with a side of syrup, and contains 14 grams of protein and a Weight Watchers PointsPlus value of seven.

MY THOUGHTS

I received samples of both the Egg Sausage Cheese Wrap And French Toast With Turkey Sausage.

The Egg Sausage Cheese Wrap box contains two packages containing two wraps each. You heat one package for a minute and it’s ready. I was concerned the wraps might not taste great like some but I was really surprised to find these to be soft and fresh. The filling was tasty and had a good ratio of sausage, egg and cheese. The only thing I’d like to see for these wraps is to have each wrap individually wrapped. A serving size might be two wraps but a single size would make a great snack, or just a meal for someone post Lap-band surgery like myself. This was easily addressed, I just put the second wrap into a baggie.

The French Toast was a bigger test for me, as I love French Toast. One box is one serving, which is two slices of French Toast and four pieces of turkey sausage. The directions on the box say to heat for a minute, stir and then heat for 30 seconds. I found that the meal only needed 1:10, anything more detracted from the taste of the bread. The taste of the French Toast was good, a little on the bland side but syrup fixes that. The meal comes with a packet of syrup. I’d like to see a little more syrup. I recommend you cut the meal before putting your syrup on or you’ll have bread on the bottom that’s on the dry side. The turkey sausage is excellent – very tasty. Again, one serving was enough for two servings for me, I’d rather see the breads individually wrapped. Next time I’m going to freeze one piece of bread and two pieces of sausage and used a little of my own syrup.

I would buy both of these meals going forward, they were tasty and very easy to make, as well as quick and convenient. I know a lot of people that are on or have been on Weight Watchers. I think it’s great that it’s so easy to see how many points the smart Ones have right there on the box, using both the old and new point system.

The new breakfast items are available at most major grocery stores and retailers nationwide in the frozen food section. The suggested retail price for the new breakfasts is $3.09. Click on the picture of the coupon below to go to the Smart Ones site and get a $1 off coupon.

I usually stay away from frozen breakfasts. Worry about the taste. Plus it seems sort of expensive for eggs and bread. I love other Weight Watcher meals. Perhaps I'll have breakfast for lunch sometime.

might give the french toast one a whirl but I despise melted cheese on things except in a grilled cheese sandwich
