I spent yesterday several hours wanting juice. Not any juice. Not orange juice or tomato, both of which I had. I wanted something sweet and fruity. The closest thing I had was a juicebox, which I didn’t want. I’d about given up on the hope of having juice until early evening, when my sister-in-law stopped by. I’d invited her over for a glass of wine, just so the kids could play and we could enjoy some conversation. She arrived and I asked if she preferred red or white, as I had a bottle of each. We started with the red.

The wine I had was Turning Leaf Refresh, a wine and a brand that I had not tried previously.

There are four Turning leaf Refresh wines:

• Crisp White
• Red Moscato
• Moscato
• Pink Moscato

I had received bottles of the Crisp White and the Red Moscato to try.

While I do like wine, I find some wines too bitter or too dry. And even when it tastes good, I’ve never considered it to be a refreshing beverage.We opened up the bottle of Red Moscato. Turning Leaf suggests pairing this wine with beef or ribs.

My sister-in-law just likes things over ice, and I like my wine cold and never have room in the fridge. So, we agreed to drink the wine over ice. We both sipped sort of tentatively. She because she isn’t a huge wine drinker. Me because I was nervous it would be bitter. We were both very pleasantly surprised, because the Red Moscato we weren’t sure if we’d like turned out to be quite tasty. We agreed that it was sweet, and not bitter like many wines we’d tried. For me, it was actually sweet enough to fill the desire I’d had all day for juice. The wine has a very slight fizz, not so much that it’s like soda or anything like that, it’s very subtle. Before long, hours had gone by and we’d finished the bottle.

After my sister-in-law went home and I got my youngest to bed, I found myself wondering what the white was like. We’ll be having it another night this week for dinner but I was just really curious so I opened it up and had enough to fill a shot glass. The Crisp White is also sweet, and makes me think of apples. Turning Leaf suggests pairing it with foods such as chicken, and I can see where it would be tasty with food like pizza. As I put it away for another night, I found myself imagining it might taste really good if it had some caramel sugar crystals on the edge of the glass, sort of like a caramel apple. (I must investigate if such a thing exists. I’m sure it must.) The Crisp White would make a great beverage to serve for a ladies night in, or perhaps to enjoy outside on a nice fall day while watching foliage and people.
