REVIEW – Kenmore Elite Infrared Convection Toaster Oven

Today there are lots of foods that can be cooked both in the oven and the microwave. Now I don’t know about you but a good number of those foods just taste better when they’re baked rather than when they’re heated in the microwave. Foods don’t get the same color, texture or taste in the microwave as they do in the oven. But, preheating the oven and then cooking something in it takes FOREVER! So what’s a body to do? I found out, when I received a Kenmore Elite Infrared Convection Toaster Oven to review.

MY THOUGHTS

I received a Kenmore Elite Infrared Convection Toaster Oven. I fell in love with this pretty black and silver toaster oven the first time I used it. Now that’s kind of funny considering I was once offered a toaster oven and turned it down because I thought I’d have no use for it. While no kitchen would ever give up a full size oven, my oven is getting used a lot less now that we have this. It is awesome! The oven comes fully assembled, all you need to do is put the shelf in either the high or low position and you’re set. The oven can be used at temperatures between 150 and 450 (increasing in 25 degree increments) and it heats up in no time at all. Using the oven is easy. First you choose what feature you want to use – toast, bake, broil, etc. The default timer starts at 30 minutes. To adjust the timer you press the up arrow. If you want the timer to have under 30 minutes on it you’re going to need to go up past 99 minutes and then things start at 1. Admittedly, this is a tad inconvenient and that makes it the one and only thing I don’t like about the oven. However, the things I like about the oven outweigh the one thing that I don’t. Anyway. Once your timer is set, if you need it, you press start. One of my favorite features about this oven is that it shuts itself down when the timer’s reached zero. Having missed the big oven timer many times and having had food be a little overdone as a result I really appreciate this feature. We’ve used this convection toaster oven for all sorts of things – toasting bagels and bread, cooking frozen appetizers like pizza rolls, frozen chicken and fries, baking cookies, broiling a steak, cooking a pot pie, cooking garlic bread (7 frozen slices), baking a potato and cooking a frozen personal pizza. I have to admit that every single thing that we’ve cooked in the oven cooked evenly and tasted better then it ever did when we made it in the microwave and it didn’t take much longer. Things taste so much better now that they’re now only cooked but crispy and golden too! The one suggestion I can make is that since there are two slots for the shelf I’d like to see the ability to purchase a second shelf made. I love this oven and recommend it highly.
