Desserts are one of my favorite food categories, if not my very favorite one. Being the fan of desserts and of cookbooks, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check out a new cookbook, Vegan Desserts.

ABOUT VEGAN DESSERTS
The recipes speak for themselves in this decadent guide to all things sweet and vegan—from raspberry lavender cupcakes and zesty rhubarb ripple cake to stuffed cider donuts and no-bake pumpkin crème brûlée, Vegan Desserts is a triumphant ode to irresistible treats that highlight the bounty of the season. Foods made with ingredients in their prime are incomparable to any imitation taste, and 22-year-old Hannah Kaminsky, of the award-winning blog Bittersweet, prides her recipes on their peak season flavor. In Vegan Desserts, she’s gathered together dozens of her best creations in one mouthwatering volume, accompanied by her own gorgeous photography.
· When the ground starts to thaw and spring arrives, whip up kumquat poppy seed scones, carrot cake ice cream, sweet basil shortbread, or marbled chocolate zucchini bread.
· Hot summer months are perfect for raspberry cheesecake popsicles, poached apricots, black velvet cupcakes, and fresh blueberry biscotti.
· In the autumn it’s time for pumpkin butter cookies, citrus and spice waffles, golden saffron pound cake, and rum raisin brownies.
· When winter bears down, heat up your kitchen with triple ginger cheesecake, green tea and grapefruit cupcakes, maple corn muffins, or maple-pecan layer cake with gingerbread frosting.
In addition to the recipes and encouraging anecdotes, Kaminsky has included a glossary for vegan ingredients, a list of tools you’ll want to have in the kitchen, a food allergy index, and a section on troubleshooting issues that might arise while you are perfecting your baking techniques. Wow your guests and indulge the creative baker in you—Vegan Desserts is all you’ll need!
MY THOUGHTS
I received a copy of Vegan Desserts. Chapters include Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Components and Accompaniments. In the beginning of the book there two really helpful sections – an Ingredients Glossary and Troubleshooting. If you are unfamiliar with some of the ingredients called for in the recipes in this book you will find this section very helpful as it explains what they all are. If things go wrong with your recipe as they sometimes can, you may want to check the Troubleshooting section before giving up or trying again. You know the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”? Well, in this case it’s wrong. It’s wrong because the photos in the book, which accompany EVERY recipe, are just as good or better than the ones on the cover. The recipes all appear to be well written and easy to understand. The only thing they’re missing is the cooking and prep time, something I find so helpful when I’m deciding what recipe to make. I have a vegan friend that I am going to ask if she’ll make some of these recipes with me, since I know she has the ingredients that I don’t. Some of the recipes that sound and look delicious include Lemon Iced Tea Cheesecake (spring), Banana Split Cheesecake (summer), Black Velvet Cuocakes (summer), True Blue Bundt Cake (summer), Stuffed Cider Donuts (autumn), and Cake Truffles (Components & Accompaniments). One last terrific feature is the Food Allergy Index, which tells you which of the fecipes are gluten-free, peanut free, soy free and tree nut free.

I would love to have a vegan-ized recipe for Nigella Lawson's marmalade bread pudding. She also has a croissant bread pudding that I'd love to replicate!
