REVIEW – Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes

I’ve never been to a Bob Evans restaurant. Last month we vacationed in Florida, and passed what seemed like a dozen Bob Evans restaurants every day. It seemed ironic to me to receive an email while we were on vacation asking me if I wanted to try Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes. I accepted the offer because I love mashed potatoes – I always have.

I love real mashed potatoes but I hate peeling potatoes. I stink at it and it takes me forever. I’ve tried just about every instant mashed potato on the market and while some of them are good none of them taste as good as made from scratch. Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes aren’t instant mashed potatoes, they’re real ones that you buy in the refrigerated or meat department of your grocery store.

There are six varieties of Bob Evans mashed potatoes:

• Original
• Garlic
• Sour Cream & Chive
• Cheddar
• Southwest
• Sweet

I received samples of the Original and the Cheddar. One package contains a 22-24 ounce tray. It’s super easy to make Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes – just heat them in the microwave. I couldn’t believe how creamy and tasty the Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes were. They were as good or better than most that I’ve had in restaurants and better than any instant mashed potato I’ve ever had. They taste fresh, with just the right amounts of everything. I didn’t need to add butter, spices or anything! The potatoes are the perfect texture in my opinion, smooth and creamy and not lumpy. The Cheddar potatoes were very cheesy, and I mean that in a good way. I wish my pictures were better, because they truly don’t do the flavor of the potatoes any justice at all. I liked these potatoes so much that I have already bought them again. I bought the Sour Cream & Chive and served them with dinner. They were a big hit – everyone liked them and there were no leftovers. So far of the three flavors that I’ve tried, the Sour Cream & Chive is my favorite flavor, followed by the Original and then the Cheddar.
