As parents we can wear a lot of hats, as people in general even more. TJ and I were at odds earlier. He was being a typical teen and I was being a typical Mom. I reminded him that my responsibility was to be a good parent first and foremost rather than a friend. I reminded him that I am a nice person but that I could be a mean old bitch if I had to. Which is how I decided to call it my Mob attitude. Do you have an attitude your child doesn’t like? Does it have a name?

Yes, Val...I would call mine "the Principal's Office" hat. My kids, often enough, will often get the "rude attitude mood" and I call them on it EVERY time...zero tolerance. I am ruthless. I remind them that if they acted disrespectful or catty at school, they would be sittin' in the PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE!!! I decided that no more do I say I expect AS MUCH respect, honesty, good manners as their teachers, neighbors parents, part time job Bosses...I deserve MORE because I am their mom!!! I have put them first nearly EVERY day since birth, taken care of them extensively when sick or well, given up so they may have more, and relished in every single goal or wonderful victory they have accomplished...not to mention the everyday care, running them around, cooking their favorites, volunteering , etc.(I dont think they GET, though, that I have loved every minute of it!!)
They do not want to see that hat come out. Like my hubby repeats, from some old movie probably. "I brought you INTO the world, and i can take you OUT". (He says this in jest and always with a laughing smirk). But me??? Grrrr. I hate rude ATTITUDE!!!

Certainly. Each of my children feels I have one or another--the one that doesn't correspond to their thinking. Parents have the job of raising their kids not being friends.
