Books surrounded me from infancy. I enjoyed both reading and being read to. I discovered early on that not all books appeal to everyone. I read proficiently, but I read what I liked. Mystery was my genre even back then. I fell upon classics later in life, the most remarkable of which was J. R R. Tolkien fantasy fiction, the only books hubby to this day proclaims to have enjoyed.
It was no surprise that when Rankin/Bass in 1977 adapted The Hobbit for an animated television special, our whole family tuned in. The best thing about the film was that even though it was cut and adapted nothing in it was not in author Tolkien’s original book. Purists complaints it was adapted. Purists complain it was aimed at young audiences. So what?
What is a hobbit? Hobbits are imaginary, peaceful, friendly, half-sized humanoids with shaggy hair and brown furry feet who lived in holes underground in Middle Earth long, long ago. Thank you, Warner Brothers, for reintroducing these gentle, child-friendly creatures to today’s generations. Available online and in local retailers nationwide July 22, 2014, The Hobbit Animated Deluxe Edition has a 77 minute running time and a SMRP.

Share his adventures along the way with Gandalf the Wizard, a band of thirteen Dwarves, Smaug the Dragon, Trolls, Elrond, Goblins, Gollum, Warts, Eagles, Spiders, Wood-elves, and Bard. Watch him best Gollum in a riddling challenge, capture the golden ring, and become invisible. His greatest adventure is delightful.
The remastered The Hobbit is (my own opinion) far better than other filmed live action, CGI, motion capture Hobbit/Lord of the Rings epic fantasies. I prefer it to them quite simply because it entertains the whole family audience as it captures the imagination.

I love this version! It is so much truer to the book than the disappointing version from Peter Jackson. It is a true classic.
