World-Class pastry chef, Roy Fares, has traveled to many countries throughout his journey to perfect the art of baking. But of all the places his adventures took him, Los Angeles struck a particular chord, inspiring him to experiment with the many classic pastry recipes he sampled there.

Join Roy as he travels from the arid deserts of Palm Springs to the glamorous streets of Beverly Hills, sampling and baking delicious treats. United States of Cakes is a compilation of his favorite classics, all featured with his own unique twist.

Desserts can sometimes be too sweet or not sweet enough. After much trial and error, Roy has found the perfect median between the two for many beloved cakes, cookies, and pastries.

With over fifty delicious pastry recipes from various beloved patisseries such as, Magnolia’s, Crumbs, and Sweet Lady Jane, United States of Cakes reminds us of the simple pleasures in life and showcases the sweeter side of American cuisine.

Roy Fares has always loved baking. In 2010, he won the competition to determine Sweden’s best pastry chef. He has since then been featured on many baking talk shows and continues to bake and share his knowledge with others. He lives in Sweden.

Baked treats are some of my favorite things. I love to try new ones as much as I enjoy my old favorites. When offered the opportunity to check out a cookbook dedicated to sweet treats I simply could not resist.

Chapters in this cookbook include:

  • Soft Cakes
  • Cookies And Sweets
  • Cakes, Pies, And Cheesecakes
  • Cupcakes And Cake Pops
  • Sweet Breakfast

The first thing that I notice when I open the book is that the table of contents lists every recipe in the book and the page it can be found on. I love this, it makes things so simple when you’re looking for something. The next thing I noticed, even before the recipes, is the photos. They are EVERYWHERE. Every page has one or more color photos. Some pages are photos with text on them. I love seeing the photos and all of the colors of Americana. And best of all, every recipe has a photo, as it should be. Speaking of the recipes. They are all clearly written and easy to understand. I didn’t notice any unusual ingredients that might require a trip to a specialty store, which is always a good thing in my opinion. On the downside, cooking time is not listed separately, which means you have to read through the whole recipe just to find out how long the cooking time is. I find it much more helpful and convenient when cooking time is listed on it’s own, as it is a factor in my decision on what to make. This cookbook would be perfect for anyone who enjoys baked goods or baking.
