MY THOUGHTS

I received a copy of Malts & Milkshakes. I absolutely love shakes. I make a shake for myself just about every day. I only make two kinds, so I was happy to be offered the opportunity to check this title out.

Chapters include:

  • Appreciating Your Ingredients
  • Equipment
  • Quick Tips For A Perfect Shake Every Time
  • What You Should Know Before You Get Shakin
  • Basic Recipes
  • Soda Fountain Classics
  • Modern Flavors
  • Boozy Shakes

This book has a lot of beautiful color photos, almost one for every two recipes if I had to estimate. They look yummy. The recipes themselves are easy to understand. The ingredients and time to make each are clearly listed. Notes on prep, ingredients and serving suggestions are sprinkled throughout the book. There are a lot of shakes I’d like to try, including Strawberry, Milk chocolate, Sweet Cream and Cookies, Strawberry Cheesecake, Molten Chocolate Cake, Not Your Grandma’s Apple Pie, and White Russian Malt. this cookbook would be great for anyone that enjoys drinking or making yummy cold beverages.

S’Mores Shake Recipe
Prep time: 45 minutes / Active time: 5 minutes
Serves 4 in 6-ounce glasses

I was a Girl Scout fort many years. In troop 1492 we were always so busy having fun I’m not sure if we ever got around to making s’mores, but the classic treat is said to be invented by the Girl Scouts. The S’Mores Shake calls for roasted marshmallows, which requires some kind of a flame. If you don’t have a gas stove or torch, you can use the broiler in your oven. Just be sure to watch the marshmallows closely and used greased aluminum foil on your baking sheet.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 8 marshmallows, roasted until very dark
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 8 scoops Vanilla ice cream (page 18) or store-bought

INSTRUCTIONS

1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the marshmallows and stir until they melt and the mixture is smooth.

2. Remove the pan from the heat and pour in the milk, stirring until the mixture is again smooth. Cool completely. (Note: If the marshmallow milk sits for too long, it will become very stiff. Prepare it within an hour of when you are going to make the shakes.)

3. Blend the marshmallow milk with the vanilla ice cream until they are just combined.

4. Stir in the crumbled graham crackers and gently swirl the melted chocolate ice cream throughout.

5. Pour into glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of graham crackers.
