ABOUT THE PICKY PALATE
On-the-go moms like Jenny Flake know how tough it is to keep family meals interesting day-in and day-out—so she decided to do something about it. In 2007 she created her blog, Picky Palate, as a place to serve up fun, super-tasty family meals that would please even the pickiest little eaters. Now, just five short years later, it has become one of the most popular cooking blogs on the web, with 1.5 million fans stopping by each month in search of family recipe solutions in a flash.
Now, Jenny offers the same fast and delicious crowd-pleasing recipes in THE PICKY PALATE COOKBOOK (Wiley Hardcover / Concealed Wire-o; $24.99; October 22, 2012)—a collection of 133 recipes accompanied by gorgeous full-color photography. Fans will find all-time favorites from the blog along with more than 100 brand new recipes exclusive to this book.
THE PICKY PALATE COOKBOOK has the perfect recipe for any meal of the day. From One Bowl Buttermilk Pancakes with Buttermilk Syrup (a sweet and creamy syrup that drizzles perfectly over a warm stack of pancakes) to Cheesy Chicken and Wild Rice Casserole (you’ll want to devour the sauce right out of the pan!), these are recipes that will appeal to kids and adults alike. There are also plenty of sophisticated dishes to pull out when company’s coming, like Butter and Herb Whole Roasted Chicken and Vegetables (which despite all it’s slow-cooked deliciousness, takes only 10 minutes to get into the oven), or Sunday dinner favorites Home-Style Shepherd’s Pie with a creamy beef layer that Jenny’s boys would hand over their favorite toys for!
With charming head notes preceding each recipe, Jenny’s personality jumps off the pages of this cookbook while at the same time providing helpful serving suggestions, substitutions, and preparation tips. She also shares ten great tips for feeding picky eaters, such as:
- Turn dinnertime into a fun experience by incorporating games like “Let’s see who can take more bites or how many different colors of the rainbow can we eat off our plate?” Kids love a little competition!
- Try naming your child’s food something playful: Sammy’s Saucy Superhero Spaghetti, Anna’s Princess Smile Oranges… you get the idea.
Most importantly, make meal time fun. Persistence will be your best friend.Whether you’re already a big fan of the blog or you’re just desperate for ways to keep your own picky palates satisfied, THE PICKY PALATE COOKBOOK offers the perfect antidote to boring breakfasts, lackluster lunches, and dull dinners.

I love that this cookbook has a spiral binding, it makes it so much easier to use the book. I found the recipes to be clearly written and easy to understand. They do not contain prep or cooking time. The photos that are in the book are wonderful, very lovely. But, there are many recipes in this cookbook that don’t have photos, something I feel all cookbooks need. Photos help me want to make a recipe, as well as know that what I’m making looks the way it’s supposed to. Recipes that I’d like to try include Buttery Cheddar Garlic Biscuits, Crispy Buttermilk Parmesan Chicken Tenders, Hearty Ham And Cheddar Corn Chowder, and Chocolate Cake SMores Cookies. There are a good number f traditional recipes in the book that I’ve made or seen, and a number that are a little different. This cookbook would be good for people who enjoy cooking and want to add a few new meals to their recipe box.

I know picky eaters like no fish, soup, cheese hubby and hate veggies, no bones in meat #1 offspring.
