Custom Replacement Windows Measure Up, Unlike Some Other Windows

Are you familiar with that old saying or shop rule – “Measure Twice, Cut Once”? I am. Problem is, I can measure ten times and come up with ten different measurements. When you have to (or choose to) spend the money to replace the windows in your home, they need to fit correctly. You’re spending your money and making an investment, after all, so you want to spend that money wisely.

If you don’t have the correct size replacement windows you could end up having to have your openings, headers and walls all rebuilt to accommodate that window. It’s messy, noisy, labor intensive work. If you “engineer” a way to use them in an existing opening anyway, you’re defeating two of the reasons you replace windows – appearance and energy efficiency. To ensure the best fit a custom replacement window is the best option. Yes, you can go to a big box home improvement store and buy a stock replacement window. Stock means, well, stock – made for everyone in general and noone in particular. If you have an odd size opening, as we did, using a stock window can cause more problems and expense then it’s worth. A custom replacement window easily goes right into your existing opening, with no “engineering” needed. It looks great because it fits correctly, which is also what will give you maximum energy efficiency and save you money.

Time and the way your home was constructed are two of the big factors that effect your windows. You can’t just measure one window and assume that another is the same size, it might not be.

The other factor that effects your measurements is you – human error. As already mentioned, I stink at measuring.
