I watched this movie with my youngest. The main character in this movie isn’t Tink. Instead it’s Fawn, a fairy with animal talents. She is known throughout Pixie Hollow as having a big heart when it comes to animals, and for occasionally endangering the other fairies by bringing “dangerous” animals that could hurt fairies to Pixie Hollow. After endangering everyone in the hollow by rescuing an injured baby falcon (falcons eat fairies), she promises to be more responsible and to think with her head instead of her heart. That becomes very difficult for her, when hears strange growling noises.

Fawn tracks down the source of the noises. It is a huge furry monster with glowing green eyes. She observes the animal and names it Gruff. Gruff is building towers of rock in different areas of Pixie Hollow. Because she specializes in animals, this behavior naturally intrigues Fawn. Now unfortunately, many other fairies had heard the growling noises, including the scout fairies that protect Pixie Hollow. The scout fairies are trying to get to the bottom of the mystery. Fawn, really wanting to do the right thing, decides to tell the Queen about Gruff. When she goes to see Queen Clarion she discovers Nyx, one of the scout fairies, telling the queen about the legend of a monster called the NeverBeast, and how she believes that monster is going to destroy Pixie Hollow during a deadly storm. When Fawn realizes Nyx is describing Gruff she decides to hide him, seeking assistance from her friends Tink, Vidia, Iridessa, Silvermist and Rosetta.

Fawn and her friends work hard to protect Gruff. But, it seems that everything the legend of the NeverBeast foretold is coming to be. Fawn wonders if Gruff is the harmless creature she believed him to be, or the monster that Nyx describes him as. As the looming storm worsens Fawn decides to lead the scout fairies to Gruff. When another fairy is badly hurt she feels horrible. But when that fairy is able to tell her what happened Fawn must race against time to save both Gruff and Pixie Hollow.

I loved the movie. It made me laugh. And yes, it made me cry. The ending of the movie was perfect and yet really sad. You’ll have to watch for yourself to understand what I mean.

Here’s the trailer.

And a bonus clip called Feeding Gruff.

I loved this movie. So much better than the Pirate Fairy! It was just as great as the Secret of the Wings. It was so moving and I admit, I cried a little too
