I usually use ground beef in my lasagna. Every now and again I use both ground beef and Italian sausage. And there have been a couple of occasions that I used just sausage. I had some sweet Italian sausage that I had to cook up. I decided to use some of the ingredients I use when I made a sausage lasagna, but was using them in a pie. The pie was really tasty. The sausage gave things a nice flavor and I am always up for warm, ooey gooey cheeses. Here’s how I made it.
- 2 pie crusts
- 1/25 lb sweet Italian sausage
- 8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
- 16 oz ricotta cheese
- 12 oz marinara sauce
- garlic powder
- onion powder
Preheat the oven to 425 f.
Brown the sausage.
Place one crust into the bottom of your pie plate.
Place the ricotta cheese into the crust.
Layer the sausage evenly across the pie. I laid the pieces next to each other, creating 2 “layers” of sausage.
Place the marinara sauce over the sausage.
Place the mozzarella cheese over that.
Place the top crust on, pinching shut all the way around.
Place a thin layer of butter on the crust.
Sprinkle a little garlic and onion powder over the butter.
Bake for 30 minutes, until the crust is turning golden brown.
Let sit for at least 10 minutes before serving or the cheese will run when you cut it. Which is why I am sharing such a poor picture up top. I cut this too soon and it was really ooey gooey.
