MasterChef Junior

Have you ever seen the show MasterChef Junior? It’s a culinary competition series for kids who love to cook. The show is designed to be similar to the show MasterChef, and features award-winning Chef Gordon Ramsay as the host. Each week the contestants face different challenges and cook-offs and have to present a recipe to the judging panel. The ones who win their rounds continue, until at the end one remains and is named MasterChef Junior.

If that sound interesting to you, or if you or a family member is a fan of the show already, you’ll be pleased to hear that a new season of MasterChef Junior will premiere on FOX this coming week, on Tuesday, Nov 4 at 8/7c! To celebrate the upcoming premiere the folks at MasterChef Junior sent out a fun box, which I gave to Lara, one of the contributing editors at Mom Knows It All. Here’s her thoughts.

MasterChef Junior

My kids really enjoy cooking and baking with me and their dad. The MasterChef Junior Popcorn kit came with 3 different recipes, blank recipes cards, 3 other Fall recipes, plus seasonings, measuring spoons, extra containers for custom seasonings, popcorn bags, and a cute chef hat. My kids wanted to make the cheesy Rosemary popcorn first. It has very easy to follow directions. The recipe does call for the use of hot oil so to be safe I recommend close supervision. The kids loved watching the popcorn kernels pop in the pot. After a moment I quickly realized i forgot the lid.

Once the popping noised slowed down we moved the pot off the flame. Then we started mixing our topping, olive oil, salt, parmesan cheese, and rosemary. The kids really enjoyed the flavor it was definitely different from the norm. The colorful popcorn kernels were great for the fall season. They want to try cinnamon and sugar for our next batch. This was a fun way for the family to spend time together and encourage an interest in cooking.

Kids love to cook, a reason why Easy Bake is still around almost a half century later.
