Krusteaz Flatbread Mix

Hubby loves flatbreads. He’s not the biggest bread fan in the world, so he prefers anything bread related to be on the thin side. That includes sandwiches, toasts, and even pizza. He was very excited when I made some flatbread pizza this week, using new Krusteaz Flatbread Mix. The dough is used to make flatbread pizza obviously, but could also be used to create other meals and snacks. The Krusteaz Mixes are available in three new flavors – Whole Wheat, Garlic & Onion and Italian Herb.

Like all Krusteaz products, the new Flatbread Mix is very easy to use. The product comes with the flatbread mix and yeast, all you need to add is water and oil.

Once you’ve put your ingredients in a bowl you mix thoroughly to form a ball. You then cover the bowl and let it sit fr about 10 minutes, which is about how long your oven will need to warm up and get to temperature.

For the first box I chose to make two pizzas using the Italian Herb variety. I split the mixture in two, stretching each half out. Next I placed some tomato sauce (seasoned with basil, oregano and garlic) on top of the dough.  I then placed 12 pieces of pepperoni on each. Then, I sprinkled mozzarella cheese over that, about 2 ounces on each half. Finally, I rubbed a little olive oil around the edge of the crust, applying just a little to areas uncovered by sauce with my fingertip. I baked for ten minutes and they were done.

I know people that make dough from scratch and know the time and energy they put into it. The flatbread mix resulted in a fresh tasting crust like I’ve had at friends but without the work and wait. My oldest, who is choosy when it comes to crust, came into the kitchen and told me that he really liked it. Hubby was pleased with the flavor, and he said if I rolled it out a bit thinner still it would be perfect. This an affordable product to keep in your cabinet, and is likely more affordable and faster then delivery.

Here are some additional recipes, courtesy of Krusteaz, that will help you see some different things that can be done with these mixes.
