Chatham, Massachusetts, Cape Cod, 1952: A nor’easter hits the New England coast and wrecks the SS Fort Mercer. The coast guard is sent to rescue those on board. Because attention is on it, the station does not realize immediately that a tanker, the SS Pendleton, has also been wrecked. Bernie Webber and his crew are sent in a motor lifeboat to save survivors. They agree, “We would all live, or we would all die.”

This movie is based on real life happenings. Bernie Webber, received a Gold Lifesaving Medal for true American heroism. His courage, faith and honor managed against all odds to save 32 crewmen losing only one to the sea.
My Opinion Only:
This is an old-fashioned story centering mainly on Bernie Webber and Pendleton rescue. Had other characters and subplots been more fully woven in along with the rescue of the Fort Mercer intertwined in an incredible telling, it would have added tension building to a stronger climax.
