School’s only been out for 2 weeks in our area. That leaves two months before kids go back to school. I used to dread studying over the summer. I picked up elective classes at a local high school during a summer session because my Mom thought it best. They weren’t fun. I have always believed that people are more willing to do things they think are interesting and fun. I’ve also always believed, as do many people, that people get better at doing things if they practice them. Whether you fully believe that a summer learning slide exists or not, there’s no denying that children can always benefit from learning. Here are a couple of entertaining educational books to help prevent summer slide.

Play Smart workbooks

I remember workbooks from when I was a young child. Big, black and white and boring! I’ve always believed that people learn better when the material is interesting and fun, and that the best learning happens when people don’t realize they’re learning. Gakken’s Play Smart workbooks are colorful, fun and engaging. These books would be great for introducing and reinforcing skills on summer break and throughouyt the school year, and also possibly a good fit for home schooling. The notes to parents thoughout the book are helpful. Children will enjoy earning stickers for enjoying fun material. thereby avoiding the dreaded sighs when time to open educational materials comes.

Back in this old timer’s day, I loved breezing through the workbook pages I got in school. Things like this were not then available for purchase.

This is so helpful-thanks so much for the suggestions. I usually buy the books at Costco, and this year we’re getting a tutor.

My son loved those workbooks when he was a toddler! We homeschool year-round as one way to prevent learning slide.

What cute books! My kids would still enjoy them too, we have been keeping busy this summer with lessons each day 🙂 These would be great to add to the summer lessons, lots of fun interesting stuff!

Oh wow! These workbooks will keep my 30 month old grandson happy! He already knows his colors, shapes, alphabet (can read simple 3 letter words) and numbers (he can count to twenty. Lately, he has found interest in butterflies and is happy when he sees one. I will get him these workbooks and we’ll surely have fun this summer!

One of my nieces start pre-K in the fall. I would love to give her these books to start her off on the right track. She is such an inquisitive little lady and I know she’d love the books about bugs.

It is so important to encourage kids to engage in summer reading. That is the best way for them to prepare for back to school in September.

These are such great books, I need to check these out for my kiddies. The summer slide is so real, so I try to have them do school work each morning!
