4 Overlooked Ways to Reduce Moving Costs

One of the top stressors in life may be moving. Studies do indicate the most common reason for moving is a new job or transfer and this represents 9.7% of movers. However, it’s not uncommon that you may need to relocate at some point in life. The key to being able to do so without spending too much money will rest in finding ways to cut your costs. In fact, there are many things you may not even think about when it comes to relocating, but these can help you move for less.

The key way to have success when moving on a budget will rest in considering effective ways to do so before you start packing and loading up your belongings.

Move during off-season

One of the things you will strongly want to consider doing is moving when it’s a slower time for the moving companies. Most people prefer not to relocate during the winter month due to the frigid weather and the possibility of dangerous driving conditions.

You should strongly consider relocating during the winter and getting a quote from a moving company like North American. This will allow you to learn the estimated cost for the move and will likely give you more peace of mind.

Relying on a moving company that has professional movers and provides you with the courtesy you deserve is ideal while working to get the job completed.

Find moving boxes

You can save a lot of money by looking at your local grocery store or any of the restaurants you frequent for moving boxes. These are extremely common due to the businesses unpacking items to sell and may, in fact, be plentiful.

However, you will need to do the necessary work and ask for these during each of your visits to these locations to help you have a stockpile to help you move without spending any money on these.

There are sure to be many other packing supplies you will need to help you make a move less stressful. Some of these may include tape, bubble wrap, scissors and many other items.

The good news is that you can buy these at a much-reduced price at many of the local warehouse stores near you. Be sure to visit the ones that you have a membership to for additional savings. It’s also a good idea to make a list of the things you need so you won’t forget any or overspend in the process.

Clear out the clutter

You will want to remove the things you won’t need in your new home. Taking the time to have a yard sale, donating to charity or working to recycle many of the electronics in your home is sure to be ideal.

Listed below are a few of the things you can recycle:

1.  TV – If you have an older TV set, you don’t have to worry about lugging it your new location, only recycle it.

2.  Computers – Regardless what type of equipment you have these can get outdated and may not work as well over time. You can clear up a great deal of space by recycling these.

3.  Cameras and camcorders – You will want to be sure to get rid of this hefty sized equipment you aren’t using rather than taking it with you.

Decluttering will allow you to have less to move and this means a lower expense for your relocating needs.

Finding ways to make your move one that is more manageable and less costly is sure to be ideal for you. This can help you relax more and stress less during this process, and this is important for your health and well-being. Taking time to be proactive and creating a moving plan is sure to be extremely helpful to you!

Superstores will give sturdy boxes; old newspapers are great for packing; donate, trash or sell those things you have forgotten and/or won’t use.
