There are many fried foods that we enjoy. We’d probably eat them more frequently if I didn’t have to make them. I am just not the biggest fan of frying things. We have a deep fryer. We also have a deep pot that serves as a fryer on the stovetop very well. But those two things have something in common – oil. You need a fair amount of it to deep fry. Then after you’ve made the food, you have a big thing of oil that you either have to save or throw away. Ewwww and what a waste, respectively. When I was offered the opportunity to check out the new Simple Living 5L XL Air Fryer I accepted, eager to see if it would really allow me to cook fry foods without having to use all of that oil.

The Simple Living 5L XL Air Fryer comes with everything that you’ll need to get started. The box contains the air fryer, Teflon basket, divider, rack, instructions, and a recipe book. The Simple Living Air Fryer can do more than just fry. It can also bake, grill and roast. It’s large 5L size means that you can make more in one batch, saving you time and energy. The unit is suitable for cooking most foods that you would usually broil, grill or bake. It is recommended that you do not prepare greasy foods like bacon or vegetables you usually steam like carrots and broccoli.

Simple Living 5L XL Air Fryer

The Simple Living 5L XL Air Fryer features Advanced Rapid Air Circulation Technology. The air circulation technology extracts all the oils, fats and juices from the food by allowing it to drip through the basket. It then air fry’s the food by lifting the oils, fats and juices and making the food airborne by coating it. It rapidly circulates the oils throughout the entire cooking process to ensure crispy food. This ensures no oil, less fat and fewer calories.

Using the Simple Living Air Fryer is pretty straightforward. First you plug the unit in. Next, you place the food you want to cook inside of the basket. Then you push the basket into the unit to close it. You’ll know the basket is in its proper place by the loud click. Next you set the temperature you want by turning the top dial. You can set the temperature between 175-400 degrees Fahrenheit. There are seven preset temperatures to help you out. Finally you choose the amount of time you want the food to cook by spinning the large bottom dial, which goes up to 30 minutes. This turns the unit on and starts the cooking process.

The unit doesn’t take much time to get hot. You’ll know it’s heating up if the amber light is on. Once the amber light is on the unit is ready to use. It’s fairly quiet when food is cooking. If you need to check your food while it’s cooking all you need to do is pull out the basket and that will stop the cooking process. If it isn’t ready put the tray back in to cook for a few more minutes. One of the really great things about the unit is that it doesn’t throw off any heat. This makes it suitable for use year round, even in the hottest months of summer! When your food is finished cooking the unit shuts itself off.

When you’re finished cooking, the Simple Living Air Fryer is easy to clean up. not having to clean up oil droplets and/or splatter all over the place sure is nice! The basket is even dishwasher safe, making clean-up even easier.

I am updating my review of this product on Friday 06/02/17. The Simple Living 5L XL Air Fryer stopped working completely after 3 months of use. I reached out to Simple Living to arrange a repair or replacement. I was told that since I had not purchased the unit they were unwilling to do anything about it. Three months is a very short amount of time for a product priced at over $100 to fail. I feel it would be unfair to you the reader if I did not mention this.

I’ve tried making a number of things since the Simple Living 5L XL Air Fryer arrived. Things like french fries, potato wedges, fried ravioli, mozzarella sticks, fried rice, egg rolls, chicken and more. I’ll likely be sharing those in weeks to come. So far, my favorite thing to make it biscuit donuts. These are super fast and can be jazzed up any way you like once they’ve been cooked. While making a batch I couldn’t help but think of holidays past, where I hosted guests. Donuts are a really popular morning treat. But who really wants to get up, get dressed and go hunt them down? Not me! Having the Air Fryer means I can have donuts any time within minutes. I started practicing decorating some for Easter. They are colorful and lots of fun. Here’s how I make them.

Easter Air Fryer Donuts

Equipment Needed

  • Simple Living 5L XL Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1x 16.3 oz tin biscuits (I used Pillsbury Grands)
  • Springtime Sprinkles (or whatever Easter cake decorating sprinkles you have)
  • vanilla icing (I used Wilton Doughnut Stand Dessert Glaze)

Quick And Easy Easter Air Fryer Donuts Recipe - Simple Living 5L XL Air Fryer Review

Instructions

Remove the eight biscuits from the tin.

Make a hole in the center of the biscuits. I did this with the end of a plastic medicine shot glass, you could also use a biscuit cutter or just about anything round that is about 1 inch in diameter.

Set the time on the air fryer to 5 minutes and the temperature to 350 degrees.

The pan can hold four of the biscuits so you’ll need to do two batches.

Once the timer winds down, remove the donuts and put them on a plate.

Drizzle the vanilla icing over the top of the donuts as liberally as you like. The more of it that you put on the more sprinkles you’ll be able to put on.

Serve and enjoy with your favorite hot or cold beverage.

Do you have to turn the doughnuts over? Thanks. I did cinnamon rolls from a can and they turned out good, but I had to turn them over.

You ncan make them without turning them over however in my opinion the texture is a little better if you do turn them over.
