I am one of those hard sell buyers. I opt out of most TV commercials. Better things like snack time, bathroom break, even fill that time UNLESS it is mini soap Tasters Choice, Apple 1984, Morris, Bud-Weis-Er, or my favorite Charlie. Now I admit that I am star struck. So imagine my excitement, imagine my delight when StarKist invited me to hang with Charlie. I just wish I had learned Tuna-ese because he knows a lot about tails–fish of course.
I loved my trip down memory lane. StarKist began in 1910 then brought Charlie the Tuna on in 1961. He’s the one StarKist keeps rejecting because StarKist is not looking for tuna with good taste but rather for tuna that tastes good. Got to admit he is a famous icon.
Charlie hopes to make a big splash this fall when StarKist introduces new varieties of cans, pouches, and ready-to-eat on-the-go tuna salad tins and pouches. What a lineup – tried and true classics chunk, solid, yellowfin and albacore tuna plus zesty Authentio (with Vegetables, Peppers, Jalapeños); Tuna Creations (Ranch, Herb & Garlic, Lemon Pepper, Hickory Smoked, Sweet & Spicy, and NEW Hot Buffalo Style (inspired by the popularity of Buffalo wings); Gourmet Selects (Thai Style, Mexican Style, Mediterranean Style) Tuna–all wild caught!
And more….Things are changing. StarKist isn’t only just tuna anymore. Salmon Creations (Mango Chipolte, Lemon Dill, and Pink Salmon in Water), Gourmet Selects Sardines (Tomato, Mustard, and Olive Oil). What’s next for the company that is a leading producer , distributor, and marketer of shelf-stable seafood products here in the U. S.?
Time to party. Here are two cocktail creations (with or without alcohol both are refreshing crowd pleasers)…
…best enjoyed with food. Check out the Kid Creations). Bacon Ranch adds taste and flavor to little-people sized sliders. Honey BBQ makes snacks sweet, sweet, sweet. Beware. Bet you won’t want to stop once you try them.
I wish I could have spent more the one on one time with Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien. My autographed Hungry Girl Diet book’s recipes and strategies stress: Be smart; eat smart. Eating healthy is the way to go.
Then watching others burn inspired me to explore my artsy-crafty side. I even got to take home this kitchen creation souvenir.
The hosts were great as were my fellow guests. Things were busy. Everyone was happy, Just look at this smiling face. My ride had arrived so I passed on my own caricature.
But I made sure that I had a picture hanging with Charlie.
What’s your favorite tuna dish?
