I love using my crockpot. I use it year round. In the summer it’s a great way to cook hot meals without turning on the oven and heating up the house. In the winter it’s the best way to make yummy tasting comfort food, perfect for warming you up on a damp or cold day. Recently I was challenged to create a crockpot meal using products found at Dollar General. Not one to shirk from a challenge, I accepted. How funny that we have a Dollar General right near our house and I never even realized it before.
My trip to Dollar General was quite interesting, and productive. I learned that they have a brand called Clover Valley. They make many of the same type of foods as national brands but they cost less. I found all of the ingredients I’d need to create a recipe I’d make on the stove before but had never made in the crockpot and had been wanting to. The whole dish costs under $10 to make, and every ingredient is available at Dollar General. Oh and one more thing. This dish is ridiculously easy to make, it can definitely be classified as one of the Dollar General easy meals. Here’s how to do it.
Easy Slow Cooker Smoked Sausage And Potato Casserole
- 1x 16 oz package smoked sausage (I used and prefer the skinless variety)
- 3x 15 oz cans Clover Valley sliced potatoes, drained
- 1x 14.5 oz can Clover Valley green beans, drained
- 1x packet brown gravy mix
- 4 oz shredded cheddar
- onion powder
- garlic powder
Spray slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
Make the packet of gravy. I made mine in the microwave so it took under 3 minutes.
Add the onion and garlic powders to the gravy and stir.
Place potatoes into slow cooker.
Slice the smoked sausage into pieces about 1 inch wide.
Place the smoked sausage on top of the potatoes.
Pour gravy over the top.
Cook for 1.5 hours on high.
Add the green beans to the slow cooker.
Add the shredded cheese to the slow cooker.
Cook for 1 hour on high.
Serve and enjoy.
