October is National Pizza Month. You might be thinking “hey, pizza doesn’t need its own month, any day is good for pizza”. I’m sure there are many people out there who’d agree with you. But think about pizza for a minute. If you’re like millions of other people, when you want a fresh pizza you call for delivery or takeout. There is another option – make it yourself. That’s right, you can take pizza night to a whole new level by taking the centuries old favorite and making it yourself. There are several great things about making your own pizza. First, it’s fresh and has exactly what you want on it. Second, it’s probably less expensive then ordering out. third, your house will smell like pizza.
As a part of the month long celebration that is National Pizza Month, Classico challenged me to elevate pizza night, which I gladly accepted. The only thing asked of me was to use my imagination and one of Classico’s pizza sauces. There are three Classico pizza sauces, by the way – Traditional (Better Homes and Gardens 2013 Best New Product Award winner), Fire Roasted or Creamy White (not available until Spring 2014).
We had a pizza party the other night and I made a number of pies, using all three of the different Classico pizza sauces. All of the pizzas were super easy to make, as I chose ingredients that would complement the convenience of the Classico pizza sauces. The one I’m about to share with you was the favorite of the night. The Creamy White sauce is very flavorful and sort of tastes like a cross between garlic & herbs and alfredo. It’s super yummy!
- 1x 15 oz refrigerated fresh pizza dough
- 1x 14 oz jar Classico white pizza sauce
- 4 slices imported ham
- 4 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2x green peppers
Preheat oven to 450 f.
Roll out pizza dough and place on pizza pan or pizza stone.
Spoon a layer of sauce over the crust.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
Sprinkle the ham over the mozzarella cheese.
Place the peppers on top of the ham.
Bake for 20 minutes at 450.
Remove from oven, slice and serve.
