Ever had an ice cream sundae party at your house? Well, it is time to have some fun and treat yourself along with your friends to heaping gobs of ice cream and a movie. Relive a little high school nostalgia and indulge. If you want to make this something a bit unique then you need to think outside of the box. Everyone loves hot fudge and caramel but you need to think outside the box and make this an event that people will remember. I suggest going a bit classy with this one.
Take some inspiration from the top pastry chefs in the world and consider salted caramel toppings. Little kids love things as sweet as they can get them but our adult sense of taste can enjoy some contrast and some variation. Salted caramel wont overload our taste buds the way that vanilla ice cream covered in a caramel sauce may do. Put out a bowl of smoked sea salt so people can add as much or as little as they like. Similar to beluga caviar on a cracker with farmer ís cheese and honey, the grains of salt will offer a burst of saltiness to contrast with the creaminess and sweetness.
Speaking of beluga caviar you should give caviar a second thought. I am not suggesting you make this the most expensive sundae party in history. I am actually talking about fruit caviar. This is a much more affordable option and a unique topping that you might never think of otherwise. Fruit caviar can be golden American fish eggs that have been infused with fruit essences like guava or they can be tapioca pearls that have been given much the same treatment. These are entirely different than beluga caviar and pair amazing well with vanilla ice cream. The bursts of fruit flavor are amazing on your tongue.
