Recently the folks at Bertolli reached out to me and offered to let me try some of their newest products.
In 1865, Francesco Bertolli® opened a small store in Lucca, Italy selling regional foods including wine, cheese, olives and olive oil. When Italians emigrated to America in the late 1800’s, they wrote to Bertolli asking him to send crates of olive oil. Thus, Bertolli became the first exporter of olive oil.
Since then, Bertolli® has grown to include a broad range of restaurant-quality pasta sauces and frozen meals that stay true to the heart of authentic Italian cuisine.
I was sent some coupons and asked to try the newest additions to the Bertolli family – Bertolli Classic Risottos. There are two flavors – Roasted Chicken & Mushroom and Garlic Shrimp.
Bertolli Garlic Shrimp Risotto – Italian rice and garlic shrimp with zucchini, yellow squash and red peppers in a white wine cream sauce.
Bertolli Roasted Chicken Risotto – Italian rice and roasted white meat chicken with Portobello mushrooms and asparagus in a parmesan cheese cream sauce.
I really wanted to bring home the Garlic Shrimp for hubby, as he loves garlic and seafood. I have looked in five grocery stores in my area for about two months now and have never seen it.
I also looked for the other new additions to the Bertolli family, two meal soups.
Bertolli Italian-Style Wedding – Mini Italian-style meatballs with spinach, bacon pieces, carrots and ditalini pasta in a savory broth.
Bertolli Ricotta and Lobster Ravioli in a Seafood Bisque – Ricotta and lobster-filled ravioli with diced celery and carrots in a rich seafood bisque.
Unfortunately I didn’t find those either. There are a few other varieties of meal soups as well including:
- Bertolli Chicken Minestrone
- Bertolli Roasted Chicken & Rotini Pasta
- Bertolli Tomato Florentine & Tortellini with Chicken
- Bertolli Tuscan-Style Beef & Vegetables
But back to the meals. While on my quests I tried many of the other Bertolli meals. And there are a lot of those, including:
- Bertolli Chicken Florentine & Farfalle
- Bertolli Shrimp Scampi & Linguine
- Bertolli Chicken Parmigiana & Penne
- Bertolli Italian Sausage & Rigatoni
- Bertolli Chicken Alfredo & Penne
- Bertolli Roasted Chicken & Linguine
- Bertolli Chicken Alla Vodka & Farfalle
- Bertolli Shrimp, Asparagus & Penne
- Bertolli Chicken Marsala & Roasted Redskin Potatoes
- Bertolli Tuscan Style Braised Beef with Gold Potatoes
There are also some Mediterranean Style Meals, including:
- Bertolli Garlic Shrimp, Penne & Cherry Tomatoes
- Bertolli Grilled Chicken & Roasted Vegetables
- Bertolli Steak, Rigatoni & Portobello Mushrooms
- Bertolli Chicken, Rigatoni & Broccoli
So which are my favorites and why? My top two favorites are both chicken.
I love chicken parm. I wanted to be able to try a dish I’d had before so I could make a decision about the flavor based on a food I’d already tried elsewhere. So, for the first Bertolli Meal that I tried I went with the Chicken Parmigiana. The meal was very easy to make. You can make it in the oven or the microwave, I chose the microwave.
The flavor of the Chicken Parm was amazing, just as good as or better then what I’ve had in many restaurants. The sauce tasted like it was freshly made, with chunks of tomato in it.
The Chicken Alla Vodka & Farfalle was also terrific. The vodka sauce in this dish as as tasty as that which I’ve had in restaurants. The sauce is creamy and delicious and has chunks of tomatoes, and the chicken is very tender and fresh.
There are a number of the soups and meals that we would have loved to have tried but they have mushrooms, something I don’t like and hubby is allergic to.
The flavor of all of the meals that we had was very good. I recommend the meals, particularly if you can find them on sale. I do wish the bag had a little more in it, each bag is intended to feed two but I find the portion size on the small side.
