I always wonder what others do while they’re waiting for their food to cook.
I am the first to admit, I am a bit impatient when it comes to cooking. I tend to have my flame a little higher then it should be sometimes, if I don’t want to wait for things to cook. There are also times that I’m not in the mood to work hard at a meal. For example, if a recipe says that I need to stir frequently on low for 15 minutes, chances are god that I will try stirring it a little less often then I should, and that the burner will be on medium or high. By far, the biggest thing I have learned about cooking is to not leave the room if it is avoidable. There have been times where I left the room that I got sidetracked and was away from the stove longer than I should have been. This does not always make for the best dish. I have found that there are two things I can do in the kitchen to help pass the time while food is cooking. One is to go through that week’s papers and magazines and cut out coupons. The other is to play with an app while sitting at the kitchen table. I’m close by the food while doing either of these, so my attention remains in the room and whatever needs to be done with the food gets done.
