Whether you eat them in pancakes, smoothies, frozen, or straight from the bush, wild blueberries are one of the most delicious and super-healthy foods in the world. From fun facts to recipes, blueberry queens to queen bees, this book is the ultimate authority on the wonderful wild blueberry.
- Wild blueberries are one of the healthiest foods on the planet
- One of Maine’s favorite ingredients
- Wild blueberry harvesting has a long and interesting history
- Includes 16 blueberry recipes
Growing naturally only in Maine and parts of Canada, wild blueberries are prized for their intense flavor and color. The Wild Blueberry Book follows the story of these luscious berries as they make their way from the barrens to your table, with some stops along the way for pie-eating contests, baking competitions, and even an annual musical celebrating the culture that has grown up around Maine’s official berry.
I received an advance copy of The Wild Blueberry Book. Chapters include Blue Acres, Brain Food And More, Blossoms Bees & Berries, Wild Blueberry Country, Celebrating Blueberries, and After the Harvest. I had been expecting a cookbook, which this is not. This book is all about blueberries, detailing the life of a blueberry from harvest to table. There are lots of color photos scattered throughout the book. The few recipes that are included are easy to understand, although they do not contain a photo or prep and cooking time. I haven’t had the opportunity to read through this entire book yet but can tell you that if you enjoy learning about food or learning about specific regions of the country, you’ll probably enjoy this book.
