My Mom and I threw a small baby shower for my brother and his girlfriend, whose son was born three weeks early this past Thursday. The budget for the shower was tiny, with me on disability and just having lost my job and with her being on a fixed income. She and I had been to BJ’s earlier in the week and I’d seen some nice looking cakes that were pretty inexpensive. Most were buttercream, an icing that many love but that we are not great fans of. We prefer whipped cream icing. Well, BJ’s had both buttercream and whipped cream icing cakes. The large cakes were half sheet and were priced at $17.99. (There were smaller ones for less as well.) I decided we’d try one.
Mom went to BJ’s this morning to pick up the cake, as I am still not cleared to drive after surgery. The cakes are premade, and the choices of filling were chocolate or strawberry. I told her I wanted to go with the chocolate. The folks at the in store bakery put the writing Mom asked for on it at no extra charge. The cake looked beautiful. The vanilla cake was moist, the whipped cream icing light and fluffy and the chocolate filling quite tasty. Everyone seemed to enjoy the cake, with several people having more than one slice. There’s no cake left now. I am thrilled with the cake and will definitely purchase one again if the need arises.
