Being that I work full time outside of the home, there’s nothing I like more than a tasty dinner that’s easy to make and doesn’t take long to put on the table. I don’t always have time to make a really nice meal and I have never claimed to cook with restaurant quality. These are some of the reasons I was glad to accept an offer to review a new boxed dinner kit.
Romano’s Macaroni Grill Restaurant Favorites is a new product line of boxed dinner kits inspired by meals you would find at an actual Romano’s Macaroni Grill. Four flavors are available – Creamy Basil Parmesan Chicken & Pasta, Garlic & Herb Chicken Penne, Chicken Alfredo With Linguine and Chicken Marsala With Linguine. We tried the Creamy Basil Parmesan Chicken & Pasta.
The box offered easy to understand instructions. All we needed to add was milk, butter and chicken. Each of the included ingredients come in their own pouch – pasta, sun dried tomatoes, seasoning, cream sauce and grated cheese. You have to boil the pasta in its own pot while you cut and cook the chicken. The next step is to add the milk and seasoning to the chicken. After that you add the sun dried tomatoes and the cream sauce to the chicken. Next you drain the pasta and toss it together with the chicken mixture. The last step is to sprinkle the grated cheese on top. All together it took me 18 minutes to prepare one box for dinner, just under the 20 minutes the box said I’d need.
The taste was very good, better than something I could come up with myself. It isn’t unusual for one or both of us to doctor dinner kits with our own seasonings, that wasn’t necessary with this kit. I did think there should have been more sauce as I found the pasta to be on the dry side. People that prefer their pasta “unsmothered” might like the amount of sauce, I like my pasta covered in sauce. The box says that it yields five servings. My family doesn’t usually eat what a suggested serving is, we’re hungry people. I made garlic bread with this and there was just enough for four. I personally think it’s a bit expensive at full price, but I have seen these kits on sale for as low as $2.50, at which price I would buy it.
