Tootsie Roll Donuts Recipe

We'd love it if you shared it!

Tootsie Roll donuts are super easy to make. And because they’re made with the contents of K-cups or instant packets, you can easily change up the flavor of the donut by changing the variety of hot chocolate you’re using.

I participated in Mom Blog Tour Winter Fancy Food Show (#MomBlogTourFF) on behalf of Wendy’s Bloggers. I received Two Rivers Coffee products to facilitate my review, but my opinions and the recipe are my own.

Do you love hot cocoa? I do! Hot cocoa is a beverage that I have enjoyed since I was a child. There is something comforting and familiar about it. The folks at Two Rivers Coffee recently put a new spin on this old favorite beverage by creating Tootsie Roll hot cocoa K-cups and Instant Packets.

That’s right! The Tootsie Roll that you’ve known and loved for many years, that popular little chewy chocolate candy, is now available in a hot chocolate form. And that’s not the only one of iconic candy flavors you know and love that’s now available in a deliciously drinkable form. The other iconic candies from Tootsie Roll Industries that are now available as a hot chocolate include Junior Mints, Sugar Babies, Andes Mints and Charleston Chew (Strawberry, Vanilla or Chocolatey). Each of the hot chocolate flavors is available in both single-serve K-cups as well as instant packets. Here’s a tasty bit of information – the Junior Mint Hot Cocoa was the top-selling K-Cup in Walmart in 2016!

Is your mouth watering for some hot chocolate now? Wondering where you can buy these? The whole line of Tootsie Roll Industries hot chocolates, along with the Two Rivers coffees, in stores nationwide. Jut check the product locator to find a store in your area.

Now, of course Tootsie Roll Industries Hot Cocoas are great for drinking. But did you know that they serve other purposes besides making tasty hot drinks? You can use them in recipes too!

K-cups and instant packets are super convenient. I easily imagined enjoying a donut with one of the beverages. So, I decided to make some donuts with the hot cocoa!

I made a Tootsie Roll donut because I knew everyone would enjoy the chocolatey flavor. And they did! Here’s how I made Tootsie Roll Donuts.

Tootsie Roll Donuts

Equipment needed

  • large mixing bowl
  • donut pan
  • spatula for loosening donuts
  • hand mixer
  • cooling racks

Ingredients

  • 16.5 oz box French Vanilla cake mix (I used Duncan Hines)
  • 4x Tootsie Roll Hot Cocoa K-cups
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 12 Tootsie Rolls
  • container frosting

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 f.

Place the cake mix, egg, water, oil and the content of the k-cups in the mixing bowl and mix thoroughly on low.

Spray the donut pans with nonstick cooking spray.

Fill the cavities in the donut pans abut half way up. If you go further (like I did on my first batch), you’ll wind up with little round cakes with no holes.

Bake for 12 minutes.

Place the donut pan on a wire rack to cool.

While the donuts are cooling, chop up some Tootsie Rolls. You’ll need to cut them in half lengthwise. Next cut the two halves in half lengthwise. Now, cut the four pieces into smaller bits. I used 12 Tootsie Rolls and was able to decorate 21 donuts.

When ready to put the frosting on, warm the frosting in the microwave to make it very soft.

Doing one at a time, dip one side of the donut into the frosting. Sprinkle the chopped Tootsie Rolls on top.

Repeat until all of the donuts are frosted and decorated.

Serve with Tootsie Roll hot chocolate.
