When I was invited on a factory tour with BlueStar and Prizer Hoods I first visited their websites. When I did so I was in awe. Never before have I considered a stove beautiful. And so many features, looking at them makes me not only want one but it makes me want to cook. I couldn’t make it to the event but definitely wanted to learn more, so I asked Pat. to stand in for me and represent From Val’s Kitchen. After she told me about her trip, I found myself looking at their stoves and hoods, wishing Santa would bring me one of these gorgeous pieces. A girl can dream, can’t she… I feel like cooking. I feel like cooking a lot.

I grew up in a world of gas stoves and pilot lights. They made for great cooking. Every home I lived in or visited until 1969 had natural gas. I never gave the fact much thought until Nixon’s imposed energy crisis and its new natural gas customer moratorium. Forty-three years later I think about it all the time as I sit in my Gold Medallion Total electric house.
No gas or oil here, just one ever rising power utility bill. Two weeks without power during Sandy left me cold and dark. How I wished I had a real gas stove that cooked so well and even, in a pinch, heated the kitchen at least. My residence reminded me of prison. I survived on a diet of trail mix, cold cereal, energy bars with generous servings of bottled water. My pitiful attempt to warm water on sterno failed miserably. I longed for a hot drink, but the few places open demanded cash and ATM machines run on electric were OUT. I longed for the old days and a gas stove. I promised myself someday…. Yesterday I saw the stove of my dreams – no more electric stove nightmares.

Although BlueStar is not self-cleaning, utilitarian consumers like me prefer its dishwasher safe washable grates, griddles, and burners and easy clean surfaces over a high temperature minimum three hour locked clean burn cycle that still needs either a soap or soap and water rinse.
