The History Of Coupons

Do you use coupons? I do. I grew up around them. My Mom has always clipped coupons. She’s really good at making the most of her money, and that definitely includes the use of coupons. Not only does she do much of her shopping with coupons, she tries to shop during double and triple coupons periods whenever possible. I have discussed with her many times money saving tactics including the use of coupons, and the things some people will do to use them. For example, I will not drive five miles to save 25 cents. I’d spend more then that on the gas. I didn’t know much about the history of coupons until I saw this infographic. I found it fascinating that, according to this, the first coupons printed were for one cent. I wonder how much it cost them to print and distribute those.
I’m curious. do you use coupons occasionally or frequently?

I HATE the misuse of the word retarded. I take it personally and find it very offensive.

When I was just setting up my own home, I remember five cent coupons. Remember back then in the 60′s things were much cheaper–first class stamp $.05, gallon milk $.95, dozen eggs $.53, gallon regular gas $.53. I bought a house that year for $10,700 and a car for $2,000. Things were fixed rather than disposable back then with American labor here in the U. S. A.
I bought my new car with a coupon- love ‘em!
