ABOUT CATCH! DANGEROUS TALES AND MANLY RECIPES FROM THE BERING SEA
Travis Lofland makes his living as a deckhand and cook on the Bering Sea doing one of the deadliest jobs on the planet: Alaskan king crab fishing. But you don’t have to travel the seven seas to taste the best food the ocean has to offer. In Travis Lofland’s new cookbook, Catch!: Dangerous Tales and Manly Recipes from the Bering Sea (Thomas Nelson, Inc.), he teams with his Cordon Bleu-trained brother Chef Jason Lofland to share a selection of recipes perfected during a lifetime of outdoor pursuits and kitchen adventures, seasoned with stories from the sea.
In Catch!, Travis Lofland and his brother offer up a bevy of fun recipes and tales that are perfect for sharing with family and friends. A sampling of chapter titles and recipes include:
Snag a First Date Appetizers: Sure to Impress Chipotle Avocado Brie Melt
Soups and Manwiches: Slap a Smile on Your Face Ahi Sandwich
Lose the Beer Belly Salads: Dutch Harbor Salmonberry Vinaigrette
Excursion Entrees: At Sea Sashimi
Boat Meals: Nuked King Crab Legs
Tuck in Your Shirt, but Don’t Bother with the Tie Entrees: Reckless Red Salmon
Desserts: Slimy Limey Coconut SundaeIn Catch!, Travis shares his secrets for navigating the high seas and making great food that will stick to your ribs. Whether you’re four or ninety-four, Travis believes that everyone has a bit of fisherman in them. And whether you’re cooking in a galley or on your porch, you’ll find great tips for putting smiles on hungry faces. So fire up the barbecue and call your crew. These recipes will put meat on your bones so you can return to the Bering Sea.
MY THOUGHTS
To me, this cookbook screams “manly meals”. Or should I say, cooking for guys. Why is that? Because guys like to watch the show Deadliest Catch. Because of the title and the cover. Because of the chapter names, which include:
- Boat Meals from the Deadly Seas to Your Deck
- Excursion Entrees: Unconventional meals for On-The-Go Adventure
- Soups and Manwiches
- Lose the Beer Belly Salads
- Snag a First Date Appetizers
- Tuck in Your Shirt, but Don’t Bother with the Tie Entrees
- Starches and Sides
- Desserts
- Rubs, Sauces and Dips
This unique cookbook contains recipes and anecdotal stories. Each chapter includes an index. There are a good number of photos throughout the book. Recipes look straightforward. there are some recipes that don’t call for fish, for items like beef and chicken Cooking and prep time aren’t included and would be helpful for helping readers decide what recipe to try. This cookbook would be great for guys that like to cook, guys that like fish, and also probably guys that like to fish. It looks like it would be a fun book for the right person. My brother should enjoy it tremendously.

Any whale of a tale or tail?
Does it have any cod recipes? My husband is a big fish and seafood fan and he’d enjoy this book.
